The Insubres

The Insubres were a Celtic tribe settled about the Po River and other regions of Cisalpine Gaul. They were an oligarchic society and fought numerous wars against the Romans. The most significant of these wars was the Second Punic War, in which they rebelled with the Boii, Lingones, Taurini, and Gaesatae upon Hannibal's arrival, and aided him in his campaigns. Despite their distinct culture, the Insubres were eventually Romanized, as with the other Celtic tribes, in the succeeding centuries.
