The future is in chaos all over the world. Not a single continent or island is habitable anymore. Humans were forced to build platforms simulating artificial islands.
However, the difference between social classes is greater than ever. The rich are very rich; and the poor are very poor, giving rise to a small middle class compared to what was usual.
Now, this society depends on an old and damaged ship that brings resources from other places far away from the population. It is an unsafe and unpredictable way of life because you never know when the monsters that have now populated the planet will destroy the ship condemning humans to decline until, in the end, hunger and desease ends with them.
