The Spiral aerospace system is a Soviet space system consisting of an orbital aircraft, which, using air launch technology, was launched into space by a hypersonic booster aircraft, and then by a rocket stage into orbit.
The Spiral project, launched in the 1960s, was a response to the US program to create the X-20 Dyna Soar space interceptor-reconnaissance bomber Go to the section "The impact of American programs on the project". In 1964, the concept was developed at the Central Research Institute of the 30th Air Force; in the summer of 1966, the development of the project began at the design bureau of OKB-155 A. I. Mikoyan. From 1969 to 1974, tests of resettable layouts were carried out; from 1976 to 1978, 7 successful test flights of the Mig-105.11 (flight subsonic analog of an orbital aircraft) were conducted.
I built a booster plane and an orbiter.
