Varso – a complex of office buildings in the Wola district of Warsaw, on the corner of Chmielna Street and John Paul II Avenue. The Varso Tower skyscraper, which is part of the complex, is 310 meters high and is the tallest building in Poland and the European Union.

The investment was carried out on a plot of 1.72 ha purchased in 2011 from PKP by the developer, the Slovak company HB Reavis, for 171 million PLN. The skyscraper planned for this location was known under the working name Chmielna Business Center. The name Varso is a reference to the Latin name of Warsaw, Varsovia.

Varso was to be the fifth tallest building in Europe and the tallest in the European Union, overtaking (before Great Britain left the EU) The Shard skyscraper in London (309.6 m).

Initially, the plans assumed the possibility of building a 130 meter skyscraper, but eventually it turned out that a larger facility could be built. Varso consists of three buildings: a 230-meter high main tower (including a 310-meter openwork spire) and two side skyscrapers, 90 and 81 m high. Their total area is approx. 140,000 m2. m², of which 7 thousand m² is to be commercial and service space. The architectural design of the complex was prepared by the Foster and Partners team (main tower) and HRA Architects (side buildings).

At an altitude of 230 meters, the highest publicly accessible observation deck in Poland was built (approximately twice as high as the one in the Palace of Culture and Science). According to plans, there will be a restaurant on the 46th floor with a panoramic view of the city. All buildings are connected to each other at ground floor level, and the entire complex is also connected to the underground gallery of the Central Warsaw station. Under the facility there is a four-story parking lot for approximately 1100 cars, 80 motorcycles and 750 bicycles. The investment also included the reconstruction of the western section of Chmielna Street - a new frontage over 210 meters long was created. The surface was renovated and trees and bushes were planted.

The general contractor was HB Reavis Construction - a company from the HB Reavis Group. The investor obtained the building permit in December 2016. Construction works started in the same month.

In October 2017, a 60 ton rock was excavated at the construction site, which was brought here by a glacier probably 1.5 million years earlier. It was at a depth of about 10 meters. It was pulled out using a specialized crane and then transported to Pole Mokotowskie, where it stood next to the National Library. In the future, it will be displayed in front of the entrance to the skyscraper.

The skyscraper reached its target height of 310 meters on February 21, 2021. Construction was completed in September 2022.
