The Walden Mall constitutes the nucleus of the shopping district, hosting a variety of small businesses in its halls. The building was renovated in the late 2050s as part of the Walden City government's attempts at re-energizing the downtown economy with renovations and public monuments. The building itself suffered a decade of mistreatment prior with most of the building being condemned, but with advances in construction methods and space-age materials, the former office building was given a new lease of life and continues to be a hub for shoppers and window browsers alike!
"lotta those buildings were given a fresh coat of paint before the war, I suppose it was to give the idea that everything was going great while Anchorage was being invaded, though they couldn't exactly repaint people's bank accounts so the renovation efforts didn't stretch far outside the city line."
