Tower
This is an older watch tower by one of the lakes in my city (actually it's a cut off river, but shh). People would have used it to overlook the city and look for danger. Maybe fires or bad weather? You might think "Wow, that's a very eccentric staircase you got there" and yes it is, not because I'm creative, but simply because I'm a bad staircase builder and always struggle with them haha.
I think the weathered walls are the most important thing here. The tower wouldn't have looked as good without the different use of blocks. Also note the sides, the corners. I used stairs the make it less straight and new.
1.5 height windows can also do wonderful things. 2 is too big, 1 too small, so 1.5 (so with a slab) is perfect.
Thanks to HiddenDarkness34 for inspiring me. I really liked the roof style you used on your military towers on the Romecraft server ;)
About building:
In the beginning, when I started building on this map, I refused to build along with the terrain and made everything flat (removing hills, building platforms and build over lakes and rivers). This was a huge mistake, so I recently installed (finally after 3 years) World Edit for single player and starter removing all those older and less successful builds and started to restore the natural landscape. The entire map is full of rivers and sadly I couldn't recreate the entire rivers, since I'd have to move way too many things, so I decided to make lakes out of them.
So, if I could give you, builder, one piece of advice: don't ever ruin the terrain. Use it to your advantage (even mountains, you can perfectly build against them with the terrace method). Of course, removing a small pit or hill or something is no disaster, just think twice about the greater events ;)
