Since its first inception in World War I, the aircraft carrier has grown dramatically in scale and capability. Long dismissed, however, was the notion of a twin-hulled catamaran design. Though beneficial in a larger hold capacity, the hull stresses always proved too great in rough seas for the integrity to be maintained, and the possibility of breaking apart was not a risk ship-builders were willing to take. Developed in top secret in co-operation between the navies of a dozen UN countries, the Atlantic is the biggest, fastest, and most technologically advanced aircraft carrier ever developed. The twin-hull design utilises groundbreaking but highly classified construction techniques, that may well become standard in military vessels worldwide if the ship passes sea trials. This, however, is expected to last several years, owing to the World Navy's intention of maintaining the secrecy of the design.
