Realms of Caeldor - Roleplay | Fantasy | Medieval Minecraft Server

Realms of Caeldor is a survival roleplay server where you, the player, start with a blank slate and mold your character based on your experiences while on the server. Will you be a strong warrior, always at the front of the battle, or a humble farmer that supplies the nearby town with food? Maybe you're a wizard studying your arcane arts high up in a tower, or a priest giving sermons about the love of the Spirits. The character option are endless as long as your imagination is open! Players begin their journey reborn into a race of their choosing. While the gods hope for balance in the world, what a player does once they leave the spirit realm is up to them.

No one quite knows how the world came to be. It has always been in the watchful gaze of both gods, the Sun and the Moon. The two gods are locked in an eternal dance to keep balance in the fragile universe.
The Sun god, Giver of Life, the one who pushes. His warmth guides the beings of this realm through trouble and fortune. The glow of the holy Sun was that of which has always been there and always will be. He brings power and unity to everything with this existence.

The Moon is the keeper of balance and all things mystic. She is the guiding force in the heavenly dance; the one who pulls. The Moon's soft glow is often seen as doom, for when night arises, so do the undead. Those who know her true meaning understand that without the Moon, the world would fall into chaos. With her cycles, the Moon brings a new light and new power to the being of the world. Her mystical forces bind every living and nonliving thing.

The gods, seeing that the world they watched was empty and void, decided to summon forth supernatural beings from the very ashes of the dead world. These Spirits soon become known as guardians of the land and all who inhabit it. As more Spirits ascended from the ashes, more was brought to the land: the forests, waters, mountains. All rose from the dead land.

But the Spirits grew weak and sad. They had no purpose in the world, no one to acknowledge them. The gods, overcome by love for their children, saw fit to create followers for them. From the ground, they summoned great beasts of flesh and blood. These beasts, known as Dragons, were the first true people. Intelligent and forever curious, they worshiped nearby Spirits. However this was not a perfect system.

Some Spirits felt neglected by the Dragons and thus thought themselves forgotten by their parents. Feeling the loneliness of their children, the gods created others to worship them. But the Dragons became split on the gods' decision; some saw it as a wonderful thing to have these new beings help provide love to the Spirits and would allow the gods to bless them equally. Nevertheless, the vast majority saw themselves as the most powerful beings, the only ones worthy of the gods' love. These Dragons began to wreak havoc on the land. They pillaged and burned, unleashing mayhem upon the new beings.

The gods were saddened by the Dragons' actions, so they banished them to a land beyond space and time. There they would spend eternity, forced to reflect on their wrongdoings.

The rest of the Dragons decided to help the new creations, to guide them through their lives and explain facts about the world. They taught some of the brightest minds knowledge that the Moon herself gave them. They taught them to manipulate the world around them.

The New Beings

The new beings were less powerful that the dragons, but still just as unique. So that they would never be cast aside again, the gods formed the races around the Spirits.

With these new races came new ideals. These Seraphs, as they came to be called, were to help keep balance in the world. They would guide the races. Each time the gods created a new child, new Seraphs were made. In this way, concepts such as war, love, dignity and many others were formed.

First, the gods looked to the great mountains in the east. Here they introduced "men of stone". Dwarves, a small and hardy people, were filled with desires of glory and grandeur. Their chosen Spirits were those of the earth and mountains, their Seraphs those of Labor and Wealth. To be more in-tune with their Spirits, the Dwarves built their cities deep within the mountains. They carved out great fortresses and tunnels.

Next, the gods switched their gaze to the west, to an island covered with dense forest. There they created men of the woodlands. Their tall figure made it easy to glide thought the treetops and move quietly, unseen.
These men, known as Elves, were created to worship the forest and water Spirits and the Seraphs of Love and Modesty. They were a simple people, deeply connected with the nature around them. They love they gave to the Seraphs and Spirits was unmatched. The few Elves that broke away from "true" Elvish custom became known as 'High Elves'. These High Elves built for themselves a large marble city, proclaiming their higher faith in the Seraphs.

Finally, the gods turned to the north. They brought into being the third and final race, the Humans. These beings were made to worship the widest range of Spirits and Seraphs and thus there is no one 'true" human custom. Humans adapted easily to their environment and their cities spread out over many types of land. What was considered the norm in one city might have been abnormal in another, although Humans were usually the most accepting of the races.

However, despite the gods' good intentions, these differences between the races would soon become their downfall.

The First Hate

When the three people first began to meet each other, wide eyed and curious, they saw that their neighbors were just as friendly and interesting as they were. They invited each other into their homes, told stories, and had many laughs. However, the Seraphs of certain ideals saw it as the perfect chance to express their true use. Those of War, Hate, Chaos, Greed, and others began to tear down the ties between the races.

The races fought against one another, bringing their past of love and relation to an abrupt end. The gods saw the destruction they brought to the world and how their children battled each other ceaselessly. They took it upon themselves to right the wrongs of the races and restore the true balance of the world. With one fair swoop, they returned the people to the spirit realm, giving them one last chance.

When the races returned to the world, the land was again beautiful and full of life, but their former homes and cities had fallen victim to time. They would need to start again, rebuild what had been lost and return to their former glory.

How does the server work?

Here at Realms of Caeldor we emphasize realism while at the same time including fantasy elements such as dragons, magic, and extra races. Our economics and politics start off completely medieval, but are subject to change with time as the players advance.

Unlike many roleplay servers who only have a small number of big cities for players to live in, we focus on having a larger number of smaller settlements. This strengthens our idea of medieval realism and gives the player the opportunity to get out and explore the world. Not to worry, we still have bigger settlements for those who love the city life.

Behavior and Language

  • Be courteous and respectful out of character. We're all here to have fun playing and being mean or rude will hurt others' experience.
  • No discrimination! This includes race, gender, religion, political stance, etc. We are all equals here and should respect others' rights to not hear comments like these. Note: This does not apply to RP.
  • No cybering or erotic roleplay. This includes rape, gentlemen clubs, sexual comments, and images. Kissing hands, cheeks, and lips in RP does not apply. When trying for kids, players must use "fade to black".
  • No spamming chats (posting the same message repeatedly or clogging up the chats). This bothers players and can interfere when they have questions or are trying to talk.
  • No excessive swearing. We know a word or two slips from time to time, but don't let it become a habit.
  • No trashtalking or insulting other players. If you are giving constructive criticism, be polite and calm. Don't be aggressive.
  • Do not give out the personal information of another player. That's their business, not yours.
  • No trolling or purposefully trying to upset the other players.

Please only speak English while on the forums, server, or TS3. We are a primarily English speaking server and speaking other languages could cause a divide among the players.

Modding/Hacking and Accounts/Characters
    • No mods  that are considered cheating, gives you an ingame advantage, or effects gameplay in any way.
      • Banned Mods: X-Ray, Jesus Walk, feather falling/gliding, Spiderman, etc. No hacked clients.
      • Approved Mods: Optifine, More Player Models, Rei's Minimap (RP'd as a personal map), shaders.
      • More Player Models - When using MPM, make sure your skin is  realistic to your character. No adding wings, tails, spider legs, particle effects, making your character unrealistically tall/short, etc without approval.

    • No exploiting glitches or bugs. Note: If you know of a glitch or bug or know of someone using them, you must report this information to staff.
    • Alternate accounts are allowed, but under these conditions:
      • No multicharacters. This means you are only allowed one character per Minecraft account.
      • No multiple accounts in noble houses.
      • No sharing wealth/willing all of your possessions to another account.
      • No signing petitions with multiple accounts. IE: If one character was making a petition to start a new law change, the player's other accounts cannot sign the petition.

    • In the event of someone leaving in the middle of RP, a moderator or admin may act as that character only with the approval of the leaving player. This is so that RP can still happen without having to wait for the player to return.
    • Don't let siblings or friends play on your account. If they break rules, your account will still be held accountable. We approved you to join the server, not them and it's your responsibility to protect your account.

    Griefing
    • No excessively clearing the land or changing the landscape. This ruins our custom terrain and the natural beauty of the map. Major building changes are only allowed by builders IC or OOC.
    • No killing animals that aren't your own. Note: You are not allowed to kill animals in the wild. That ruins farming and the economy for other players.
    • No breaking blocks or property of another player. You may break blocks in your own house (rearranging furniture) but you may not break the house itself.
    • No breaking blocks as a way to get into a place that's off limits. IE: A 2x1 opening. It is still considered griefing even if you replace the blocks.

    Miscellaneous
    • Diamonds are not allowed since they are considered OP (overpowered). They are only obtainable through events/quests for a specific RP purpose and are very rare.
    • You are not allowed to enter ruined castles/manors. These are roleplay scenarios and are only available when someone is trying to capture them. If you take anything from a ruined castle/manor, it is considered griefing.
    • Players are not allowed to build unless they are on the Build Team or are masons IC. This does not include moving blocks inside your own house (rearranging furniture).

    General Roleplay

    • You must be IC at all times. The roleplay chats are /ch l, /ch s, /ch w. Use /ch g (global chat) for OOC chat and /ch helpme for any questions you may have. PMs (/pm ign) are also OOC. To send letters IC, use /letter <message> and /post ign.
    • Act like your character at all times. If you play outside of what your character would do, we reserver the right to take away abilities or items and to void RP scenarios. For example, if you were the Champion of the Seraph of Peace, you would not be at the front of a battler. In that case, we would take away your championship of that Seraph.
    • No metagaming! There are two definitions for this, OOC and IC:
      • Metagaming OOC - This means using information acquired IC against another player OOC, such as disliking/attacking/insulting that player. Keep RP IC!
      • Metagaming IC - This means using information you received OOC against another player IC, such as knowing someone's name by their tag before they've introduced themselves. (Some players might give a false name.)

    • No powergaming! This means that you should not become more powerful than what would be your realistic for your character. IE: A character who has spent a lifetime farming would not be a master swordsman.
      • You may only have one profession at a time. A profession is considered a full time job. Having multiple professions not only hurts the economy, but can lead to players powergaming.
      • You cannot do activities outside of  your profession. You must hire services or purchase good from other players who in those professions. IE: If you're not a blacksmith, you can't repair or smith armor.
      • Your character, by default, has no skills until you learn them while on the server. You must RP learning these skills with another player for them to apply.

    • You cannot tell something is enchanted in RP.
    • Don't call people by their Minecraft name.
    • You can use a player's skin to tell who they are IC unless they are wearing a mask or are in full armor, helm included.
    • Follow the lore. If your character does or is something that's outside of our lore, we reserve the right  to void that RP. IE: If you try to play a futuristic character or a mystical creature that doesn't exist.
    • When roleplaying, remember to use proper sentences. Do not use shorthand or text speak. IE: Use "Good day, sir. Nice to meet you." Do not use wut up bro".
      • You may use cut off or misspelled words as g'day, m'lady, yer, 'im (him), 'er (her), etc. These show accents over text.
      • Make sure your words are in the time period. IE: People wouldn't say "OK" in response to something.

    • Be detailed when roleplaying. Emote your actions, show us your emotions, and talk appropriately for your character. The more details you include while roleplaying, the better the RP will be and the more alive your characters will feel.

    Villian Apps/Villainous RP

    • Note: You do not need a Villain app for murder/killing that is not considered villainous, such as executions, crimes of passions, self-defense, and duels.
    • Archetypes are only per character, not per account. This is because each character is different and not every character needs an archetype. If you have a new character, you must put in a new Villain app.
    • You must have been playing your current character for at least 2 IRL weeks before submitting a Villain app. This is so we have time to watch you RP this new character and understand what you're trying to accomplish with them.
    • You cannot steal unless you have an approved Thief Villain app.
    • Selecting the Supernatural/Beastlike option on the Villain app does not automatically grant you abilities. You must find these abilities in RP. You must also describe what kind of Supernatural/Beast you would like to become.
    • If you are committing a crime and wish to wear a mask, you must say so at the beginning of the event. Otherwise players will be able to recognize you.

    General Combat Rules

    • RP combat is the default combat style unless both parties agree to fight in PVP. The exception to this rule is if  6 or more players are involved in the fight; then the fight will default to PVP.
    • No running away from a fight. If a player runs away from RP combat, the fight immediately turns into PVP.
    • Players cannot die in combat unless both parties agree or the RP follows and there's no other way out for that character, such as a major battle. IE: When King William slayed the Lich King, but died in the process, or when Sapphire Wilde attacked the king's guards and they killed her. The first example is of when both parties agree to die, the second is when a player fought against a group that they knew they had little chance in beating.
    • During a fight, you may not teleport away using /home or /warp or log out of the game (unless it's an emergency). If a player needs to leave from a fight, roleplay out how your character leaves. IE: "The fight is interrupted by a group of city folk fleeing from a troll. The fighters are caught up in the crowd and now must also escape from the troll."
    • Only the players that were there at the beginning of the fight may be involved. You cannot join in later. This is to prevent metagaming where players might call in their friends OOC. This does not include guards that witness or hear the fighting or hear calls for help.
    • No camping at a player's spawn point and killing them. This makes no sense in RP.
    • Any assassination attempts on high-ranking characters must first be approved by an administrator. This prevents power hungry players killing for rank.
    • All RP deaths must be approved by an administrator. This prevents excessive dying such as players killing off their characters because they're bored. You need an RP reason to die.

    RP Combat Rules

    • Players moderate their own RP fights. This is so that players can learn from each other on how to RP fight properly. If players run into a problem during a fight, then they may ask a staff member to interfere.
    • RP fights are turn-based. One person takes their move, then the other player counters it with their move and so on.
    • When roleplaying your actions during a fight, you must use emotes beginning with words such as "attempts to". IE: "Player 1 attempts to stab at Player 2's ribcage." This prevents powergaming and ensures a fair fight for both players.

    PVP Combat Rules

    • If your character dies in PVP combat, they are considered to be knocked out IC. This allows your character to participate in battles without instadying the first time you die in PVP. Once you are knocked out, you may not move your character unless another character is moving your body for you. IE: If they're moving you into a jail cell or off of the battlefield.

    Feuds

    • Feuds are only between noble families. The point is not to kill off other families but to show off the power of the noble houses.
      • Nobles may hire mercenaries or others to kidnap other noble houses' family members and hold them for ransom or to bring dishonor on another family.
      • Noble houses can only go to war against houses that are of equal or greater power. Bigger houses cannot pick off little ones.

    Raiding/Bandits

    • Raids are only allowed when staff can be online to moderate raids.
    • Raids are only allowed in parties of 3 players or less. Raids are short term and happen in small groups.  They are not outright rebellions.
    • You can only raid the same place once an IRL week. Once a place has been raided, signs will be posted notifying players when it can be raided again.
    • Raiders may only rob players (force them to hand over items in their inventories), destroy crops, and kill animals. They may not damage buildings or steal from chests.
      • Raiders must leave 2 of each animal and a small amount of crops so that the townspeople can repopulate their farms after the raid.

    • Church bells will ring and a broadcasted message will announce when a raid is happening. This is to give warning to the townspeople that raiders are in the area and gives them enough time to run to the keeps for safety.
    • Any walled/gated builds are off limits to raiders. This includes walled cities, manors, and castles. Raiders wouldn't have enough men to take on these builds

    Click to Reveal
    • No building in the wild. You may not start your own settlement or homestead without permission.
    • Buildings must follow the style of the city they are built in. Those styles can be seen around each city.
    • Buildings must be built with roleplay, realistic aspects. IE: Blacksmith must have a forge, shipwrights have drydocks, wineries have vineyards.
    • Buildings must have proper supports or they will fall.
    • Do not modify the the landscape. When you are building, you must build with the terrain and account for it. This includes clearing custom trees.
    • When building IC, masons must build supports and scaffolding as they go along.
    • Mason must buy the materials from miners and lumberjacks.
    • Masons do not build things like furniture or decoration. To furnish and decorate a house, a player must purchase things from an artist or hire them to decorate it for them.

Note: If the staff or city leader believes that your building doesn't fit the style adequately, it is within their right to remove or change it.

My mistake! There was a typo in the previous link. It's valenor.enjin.com
As of right now, we're in need of Medieval builders; no need for redstone. If you'd like, you could apply for our lore team and maybe contact the staff about coding!

This server is fantastic. Joined on 14/07/14 and had a lot of fun on it. If you're interested in roleplaying in a fantasy medieval setting, this server is definitely the one for you.

The staff are amazing - they keep the server well moderated, well run and ensure that nobody is gaining power that is unrealistic. They are relaxed, but they won't hesitate to deal with a troublemaker. Definitely one of the more balanced roleplay servers I've ever been on, and probably the best overall server I've ever used  to date.
