Her parents named her for the color of her hair, the color of the sap from a maple tree. It fell halfway down her back, as she preferred it, and her bangs hung over her eyes. When she was five, she started having terrible headaches, that started from the back of her head and made its way to the front of her head. She'd have bruises appear on her tailbone. After one night, she woke up, and felt... different. She looked down to where she usually had a bruise on her rear, but there wasn't one there today. All that was there was a fluffy tabby-cat tail, that she could wriggle around and move side to side. She reached up and felt two small ears where her headache usually ended at. She looked over the rail of her loft bed, and jumped down, landing perfectly on her feet. No pain, nothing. Amber was different now, better. She smiled.
