-Darrell Rivers- [Malory Towers]

Darrell Rivers is the protagonist in the Malory Towers series. She is strong, brave, mature and friendly, but has one flaw: a hot temper. She is a slim, tanned girl with short dark brown, curly hair and twinkling brown eyes. She is described to have dark eyebrows and strong arms in the series. Her best friend is Sally Hope, despite being unfriendly and bitter to one another in the beginning of the first book.

Darrell is selfless will often do things to help others, even is they could risk getting herself in trouble, like when she goes to warn Bill (Wilhemina) about Miss Peters coming to tick her off for disobeying her, and gets caught trying to warn her.

Darrell has a talent for writing, and writes a pantomime for her form's Christmas performance and later goes on to write a novel after leaving Malory Towers. She is generally intelligent, with "good brains", but has to work hard to get good results.

Darrell's father is a trustable surgeon, and it is her father that she gets her dark eyebrows from, and her mother is a pretty housewife. She has one sibling: a younger sister called Felicity who joins Malory Towers in Darrell's fourth year.
