The Alsatian costume was developed throughout the 18th century with unique styles coming from each part of Alsace-Lorraine with them melding together when textile factories started popping up. The characteristics of these costumes reflect the religious, political, and overall rural theme of the area. These dresses were carefully made from linen or hemp. The dress first started out as plain, subtle colors with more vibrant colors like red and white being adopted when the textile industry boom hit.
