The legend of the Landwalker.
(a brief excerpt of a larger journal publication, previously submitted for peer review to the Ocean Studies department at Minecraft University)
It has long been accepted that the vast oceans and large bodies of water found throughout Minecraft are largely dead zones [1], devoid of complex life. While multiple, often contradictory, scientific theories abound that attempt to explain the current state of affairs, the fact remains that deep sea biomes are hardly capable of supporting even the least complicated ecosystems. Only roaming packs of nomadic cephalopods [2] call these waters home. However, it has not always been so.
Recent discoveries by renowned marine explorer Block Cousteau have revolutionized Minecrafto s oceanographic communities for decades to come. According to the documentation of his finds, Cousteau has revealed a vast series of interconnected settlements located on the seafloor, clearly made by intelligent beings resembling cetaceans, a people who apparently called themselves the Whah-Ulle. Chief among these discoveries are the many and various underwater shrines and temples, which indicate a rich civilized culture with a highly organized religious pantheon. While the most important ruling deities appear to be regionally specific, there is one primary figure that features prominently in all deep sea settlements: o Deus Rex Cetaerrano or o Whah The Landwalker.o
Below is an excerpt of the o Legend of The Landwalker,o pieced together and translated through the hard work of Block Cousteau and the further efforts and discoveries of his students. It chronicles the appearance of the ruling deity of the Whah-Ulle and his salvation of their people from a global catastrophe by leading them from their home waters to the vast and apparently life sustaining oceans of the distant past.
o o ¦.but there came a time when the words of warning proved true and the shores began to die. The grasses and algae withered, the waters receded, and many little brothers were left gasping on parched earth. The people of Ulle realized they had been foolish to ignore the words of warning. Then Waah The Landwalker and Arey The Cloudwalker returned to the waters of the Ulle, saying o do you not see what we have foretold? Thrice now we have returned to speak of the shallow rivers, the dying lakes, and the shriveling land. Will you not follow us so that we may save you?o But the people were afraid, and so they doubted still. Now it came thato ¦ [the following text is either missing or too heavily damaged to be deciphered] ...afterwards, the Cloudwalker gathered his followers, and they called themselves the Arey-Ulle, in his name. His path led them towards the clouded mountains and thus they passed out of time and memory. And the Landwalker gathered his followers, and they called themselves the Whah-Ulle, in his name. Whah was pleased and declared he would lead the people, over the land, to new and bountiful waters. He then said o See, I will make your legs stronger that you may lift yourselves from the shallow rivers and the dying lakes!o and the people lifted themselves and walked on the land. Then the Landwalker said o See, I will make your arms long and grasping that you may gather tools to aid you!o and in thanks, the people crafted adornments of gold for the Landwalker, and they crowned him with golden laurel leaves that shone as a beacon, that their God-King would light the path forward. And they made sandals of gold for him, that his steps would mark and bless the path forward. Whah was again pleased and so the journey began, away from the shallow rivers and the dying lakes, through the shriveling land to the wide ocean waters of safety... [large portions of the following text are not yet translated] ...believe that the Landwalker still travels between the land and the sea, ever watchful for dangers to the people, ever ready to bestow his gifts again to lead his people to safe harbor.o

Academic Addendum:
- While some anthropologists remain adamant that the unearthed depictions of the God King Cetaerren, similar to those above, are 100% accurate to his true appearance, most leading art historians have noted that, as a water dwelling culture, the Cetaceans would not necessarily have access to canvas or paper. The ruling form of visual art would therefore have been sculptural or in tile mosaic forms, hence the o blockyo nature of the representations found to date.
- Some academic scholars have pointed out that Cetaerren bears a striking resemblance to early representations of a faraway tribe of people called the Fishbourne. However, as any schoolchild knows that whales and fish are completely different classes of animals, such academic scholars should be ignored and ridiculed for making the suggestion.
