I had a lot here all about the Mamluks, but this is really more like a Seljuk Turk tribesman. He wears a metal breastplate with a studded leather vest over a light decorative robe. He wears a helmet with no turban, and a long mustache.
Centuries before the Ottoman empire was founded, many tribes of Turkic people were roaming around central Asia. They started invading the middle-east, taking territory and infiltrating the highest levels of authority. The Mamluks themselves were originally Seljuk Turk slaves, and by the time the Crusaders arrived, each town was ruled over by a different Turkish warlord, rather than the unified Muslim empire they might have found a century earlier.
