【OC】Perisokea / Jumi

So proud of this!!!! My favourite character from finnish mythology: Perisokea!!! :D I count this as an OC because no folk poems really tell about his appearance (except for him obviously being blind as his name suggests) and I made him too OOC/twinky ahaha xD His leggings are inspired from Ötzi’s leggings! Anyway Perisokea is basically a blind archer, who shoots shards of a big oak tree together with his two brothers Rujo and Rampa, and almost cracks the sky and the earth with the two arrows that he shot first. The third and the last arrow bounced from a stone to a human and thus created sudden unexplained pain (according to the myths). This noidannuoli thing is hard to explain but it can be interpreted as death as well! So Perisokea might be related and responsible of the creation of death itself in Finnish mythology…

I also have this wild theory that has numerous proofs. Basically there is a mysterious creature in Finnish mythology called Jumi, which is etymologycally from the same root as the word for god (jumala). Little is known about Jumi as a creature but it is known that it’s related to some spring fertility rituals! And sexuality in general — also seen in the one usage of the word jumi in Finnish: ”olla jumissa” (to be in jumi; to be stuck). ”Olla jumissa” also has connotations to noidannuolis or sudden unexplained pain. For example if your leg starts to hurt from exertion all of a sudden, you could say that your leg muscle is in jumi. This usage of the word jumi is the most common in modern Finnish. The most important thing is the obvius hinting of the usage of the word jumi. It literally connects to the arrows which Perisokea shot in mythical poems! In addition, Jumi is also related to the concept of a thunder god which again is common in Europe. The lightnings that thunder gods send down to earth are almost always thought of as them shooting arrows of fire or lightning etc down to earth. And guess who else shoots arrows down to earth? This is why I firmly believe that Perisokea = Jumi in Finnish mythology!!! Check out the link to SKVR down below to see proof!!!!!!!!! There are also folk poems from Viena in which it us said that ”Jumi is the Devil’s blind brother”. Although those poems are obviously affected by christianity (the Devil) but still there is some proof that Jumi is also blind, and that he is the same creature as Perisokea!!! Idk if any of this explanation makes any sense because I am so hyped rn xD In addition to all of this, I am also a firm believer that umpiputkis were meant to represent the arrows of the thunder god… Idk man I just want Perisokea to carry an umpiputki that would be so badass…
