Oomingmak is the Inuit word for muskox, a giant hairy cow-like animal living north of the Arctic circle. Its name means "The Bearded One." The name comes from the long hair hanging from its neck like a beard.
In Inuit mythology, everything has a sort of spirit. Some spirits were considered the keepers of others; they watched over them and protected them. Another element of many Inuit legends is shapeshifting, especially people becoming animals. I imagined Oomingmak as a keeper of muskoxen and other tundra animals. He has the head of a muskox, and he is wearing a traditional decorative Inuit parka made of caribou skin to give a human-like element.

Head: Definitely the hardest part due to the odd shape of the actual animal's head. The horns were a challenge because it was difficult to get the shape and curve right while not making them too big. I tried to make the eyes wise and watchful.
The Body: I tried to make the parka detailed so it wouldn't be boring, but not too detailed so it would be hard to look at. Also, I had to make the hood just right so it wouldn't look like a teen-skin-hoodie hood.
The Feet: Not much to say here, I tried to make hooves that didn't contrast too much with the rest of the skin. I didn't use hooves on the hands because I imagine it would be hard to hold a pickaxe with hooves, and I gave him hands instead.
The Shading: I didn't want him to be overshaded, because I don't like overshaded skins, but I also tried not to make it flat. My two shading techniques were "Basic Common Sense Shading" and "Put-Darker-Spots-Randomly-And-Hope-It-Looks-Good."
