I honestly don't know, because I don't make usually humans (and NEVER furries), but I would suggest some tips for "start" (how in the world you have level 28??)

1. Tools. Yes, tools are VERY important on the art of skinning. I would reccomend:
(A) Noise mode - it makes those plain pixel fields more diverse and alive. I would reccomend 15-20% intensity.
(B) Bucket - pretty obvious, fills up empty space with a color, or its noise mode. It is also eraser-compatible. Threshold is important: 5% fills up only empty pixels, while 10% does that with an entire side of the cube.
(C) Opacity - makes the color partially transparent. 0% is absolutely transparent (do NOT confuse with the eraser!), which is ABSOLUTELY USELESS in painting, while 100% is a completely solid color pixel. I made Bubble and Ghost Allay skins just by painting with reduced opacity.
(D) Eraser - a very obvious and basic yet useful tool. If you start a skin from scratch with no default skin, all you have is this plain white. I usually just erase bucket all sides of all cubes before aby work.

2. Use Mojang style. And I do not mean Hive, because all those vivid pastels look very proffesional while we are just some goofy storymaking amateurs. I mean the style default skina were made in. Whatever it is, copying shirt or shoes, or maybe humble beginning with 2nd layer rolled up sleeves, feel free to remake that. That style will end up best looking in vanilla Minecraft.

3. Love. The secret ingredient in most secret formulas. Good quality content needs to have a soul made from love, care and effort poured into it straight from our hearts. Content farms are soulless, gaining popularity from stealing trends and popular characters while targeting children. Let's avoid being like that.
