SCP-9463 ITEM#: 9463 LEVEL 4 TOP SECRET CONTAINMENT CLASS: KETER DISRUPTION CLASS: KENEQ 3 (Keneq The known or potential disruption would be extended to a number of people roughly defined as a city. The anomalous effects could spread with fairly significant speed, fast enough as to cause concern. The Foundation would find it moderately difficult to neutralize its effects.) RISK CLASS: WARNING 3 (Warning The anomalous effect of the object is moderate to significant. An individual within close proximity of the object will feel mild effects or may feel major effects from the anomalous object. It poses moderate danger to any individual nearby.) Assigned Site Site Director Research Head Assigned MTF Site-917 Dr. Vye Dr. Kanashami Xi-5 "Seraphs" Special Containment Procedures SCP-9463 is to be kept in a ventilated chamber measuring no less than 100 meters in length, 100 meters in width, and 20 meters in height. Its walls must be outfitted with structural steel reinforcements, resistant to corrosive enzymes and high impact forces. Hardened formations of basalt are to be applied to the walls to supply climbing and perching structures. The ceiling and side windows are to be constructed from electrochromic glass. During daytime hours and feeding periods, these windows must be opaque to allow SCP-9463 to rest. During nighttime hours, the glass must be fully transparent, allowing a simulation of a wild environment. The chamber must be kept at a constant temperature of 26.7ºC to minimize the risk of tail musculature stiffening. 24/7 surveillance shall be employed via remote drones and standard video cameras. SCP-9463 is to be under continuous surveillance by remote drones and standard video monitoring. Outside of handling, no personnel are to maintain direct visual contact with SCP-9463 for longer than five seconds due to its psionic and hypnotic influence. Interaction is restricted to Level 4 clearance. Authorized personnel must utilize psionic shielding equipment and undergo pre-interaction and post-interaction psychological screening. SCP-9463’s verbal or emotional appeals are to be ignored without exception. Any personnel reporting dreams, compulsions or hallucinations after interacting with SCP-9463 must be referred for amnestic and cognitive evaluation. SCP-9463 is to be fed once every 14 days. Subjects are to weigh no more than 113kg to reduce the risk of overfeeding. Under no circumstances are two or more subjects to be introduced simultaneously, as doing so increases the likelihood of a distended and sluggish state, in addition to erratic and unpredictable behavior and psionic emissions, or in rare cases, an explosion. Suitable subjects are D-class personnel who fit the following criteria: Personnel who have been screened for terminal medical conditions, and have agreed to undergo this process. Personnel who have a documented history of violent or heinous crimes (e.g. serial murder, rape, et cetera). UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES are personnel of any class permitted to form any voluntary bonds with SCP-9463. Any instances of complicity or sympathetic behavior will result in immediate disciplinary action, up to and including termination. Description Appearance SCP-9463 (known in urban legends as "The Hollow Maiden") is a large humanoid entity displaying features of succubi, demonesses, and other nocturnal predatory spirits. The entity stands about 2.59 meters (8.49 feet) in height, and possesses a wingspan of about 5.72 meters (18.77 feet). Its "empty stomach" weight is 191 kilograms (421 pounds), though this often fluctuates based on recent feeding. Despite its weight, its proportions are unnaturally elongated and emasciated. Its sclera are an obsidian-like shade of black with white irises. Its skin is abnormally pale, appearing similar to quartz from certain lighting, and its texture has been recorded as "similar to silk". Its hair is long and silver with streaks of black, stopping around the knees. Its wings are bat-like in appearance, and while they are severely torn, they give the entity the ability to take off and glide for long distances, and heavily assist with locomotion. Around its neck is a "scarf" of pheromone-releasing fur, giving it a more "approachable" appearance, according to 9463 itself. SCP-9463's most defining physical trait is a long, prehensile caudal appendage extending from the appendix, with a length of about 4.06 meters (13.3 feet). This appendage is its primary feeding appendage, featuring a specialized jaw at its tip. This jaw can unhinge, and it is laced with jagged and sharp fangs - similar to a crocodilian or a snake. This jaw has been recorded to open up to an abnormal extent - a maximum of 94º, or when unhinged, 155º. What follows is a broad, bulbous esophagus, then a distended, diapanous, tumor-like stomach sac by the entity's back. This sac is adapted to process large amounts of organic matter at once. The subject's vocalizations are produced at a low volume, and typically described as airy, soft, and slightly raspy in timbre. Acoustic analysis shows a narrow frequency range, and subtle harmonic distortion, appearing to have a calming effect on human listeners. Prolonged exposure to its voice often correlates to a lowered heart rate, lowered cortisol levels, and mild dissociative symptoms. SCP-9463 rarely raises its voice, even when expressing displeasure or issuing directives. SCP-9463's voice, recorded sometime in 2012. Note the subtle harmonics in the subject's voice. Behavioral Observations SCP-9463 displays cognitive intelligence well beyond the human baseline, with an advanced capacity for long-term planning, psychological manipulation and adaptive problem-solving. The subject's behavior is able to anticipate protocol changes and adjust its behavior accordingly, though it has not attempted a full containment breach by itself. In front of personnel, the subject comes off as compliant, subdued, and emotionally restrained in nature. Facial expressions tend to remain neutral, and its body language is intentionally minimized. However, this clashes with internal behavioral assessments, whose results show signs of a calculated, emotionally detached demeanor, more akin to a patient ambush predator. In addition, results seem to show that the subject is fully aware of its containment status, and does not deem Foundation Staff as a meaningful threat. In front of civilians or D-class personnel designated for feeding, however, SCP-9463 displays a completely different behavioral profile. Under these specific circumstances, the subject displays a soft-spoken, attentive and gently assertive demeanor. It employs reassuring language, sustained physical proximity, and non-threatening touch to reduce resistance. All in all, this behavior has been described as "maternal" and "seductive", though neurological scans of victims show heightened suggestibility rather than genuine emotional bonding. It is critical to note that SCP-9463's displays of affection are entirely instrumental. Neurological analysis post-interaction shows no evidence of emotional attachment, regret, or satisfaction beyond the completion of the feeding process. SCP-9463 has stated explicitly in interviews that such behaviors are "efficient" and "necessary", suggesting that the subject's views align more with utilitarian predation rather than sadism or pleasure. Feeding Process A hand-drawn diagram of SCP-9463's tail, nicknamed "Fitzgerald" by Foundation Staff. A hand-drawn diagram of SCP-9463's tail, nicknamed "Fitzgerald" by Foundation Staff. Phase I: Introduction Upon entry into SCP-9463's containment chamber, D-class personnel exhibit baseline stress in correlation with seeing an anomalous predator. The entity maintains distance for several seconds before initiating a steady approach marked a measured gait and minimal vertical movement. As proximity decreases, it begins to emit low psionic emissions and aerosolized biochemical compounds, described in subjective reports as "perfume-like". The entity avoids sudden movements during this stage to avoid facilitating premature panic. By the end of this phase, most subjects show dramatically reductions in psychological resistance. Phase II: Sedation SCP-9463 transitions to a closer interaction posture, entering the personnel's personal space, along with maintaining eye contact and a consistently soft, steady vocal cadence. Physical contact is sparingly introduced - typically light touches on the arms, hands or shoulders - reinforcing its psionic influence. The entity also increases the concentration of the aforementioned pheromonal compounds, inducing a dissociative trance-like state in the target, similar to mild hallucinogenic intoxication. All the while, it frames the environment as safe, and urges the target towards passivity. Subjects should show near-complete compliance by the end of this phase. Phase III: Ingestion After approximately 40 minutes of sedation, SCP-9463 issues a verbal directive for the subject to close their eyes. Due to the entity's ongoing biochemical and psionic influence, compliance is often near-if-not-immediate in most cases. SCP-9463 then verbally assures the target that they will be "taken good care of", maintaining the same vocal inflections to prevent alarm. With the subject visually deprived of stimuli and deemed passive, the entity utilizes its caudal appendage's oral cavity to envelope the target in one single, controlled sequence. This process is rapid, minimizing struggle. Phase IV: Digestion During the early stages of digestion, biosensors located in the appendage's esophagus confirm ongoing vital signs from the ingested individual. Once cleared, internal mucosal secretions rich in psionic and anesthetic compounds suppress pain receptors and modulate the target's awareness, producing progressive disorientation and a further decline in autonomous resistance. All the while, SCP-9463's caudal appendage exhibits slow and rhythmic lateral movements, a behavior believed to further reinforce the trance-like state induced earlier. Muscular contractions within the digestive tract advance the subject deeper into the organ system with methodical and gradual pressure. Biochemical breakdown begins shortly after, and concludes whe biometric readings show a full cessation in internal motion. Phase V: Completion After all internal motion has ceased, SCP-9463 enters a passive recovery state marked by a reduction in movements and metabolic activity. Within 1-2 hours, the caudal appendage expels small and compact pellets of indigestible material, which are promptly collected and disposed of by foundation staff. The entity then retires to its designated resting area, adopting a curled posture suggestive of a catatonic resting cycle or deep sleep. In this state, psionic emissions are negligible at most, and SCP-9463 does not respond to any external stimuli unless forcibly disturbed. This resting phase lasts for several hours. Afterwards, normal behavioral patterns resume. Discovery Many early references to SCP-9463 are of Japanese origin. Early historical references consistent with SCP-9463 date back to at least the late Heian period (circa 1100 CE), with some fragmentary evidence suggesting even earlier origins. Artifacts recovered from temple ruins, private collections and other archaeological sites include: Illustrated scroll fragments depicting a horned, winged female figure with a serpentine caudal appendage terminating in a jaw-like structure. Clay figurines and pottery shards with repeated motifs of a "hollow-bodied woman" associated with dreams, silence, and disappearance. Monastic texts referencing an entity variably translated as "The Hollow Maiden" or "The Empty Woman", described as a being who "devours without blood" and "leaves no corpse to be mourned." Many of these texts seem to describe ritualistic avoidance rather than worship, including warnings against "feeding", prolonged eye-contact, and remaining alone within the forested regions around or in Mount Hiei. The earliest modern incidents linked to SCP-9463 occurred around September of 1983, following the disappearances of three amateur urban explorers within the ruins of a secluded monastery complex along the western face of Mount Hiei. The site, largely abandoned since the Meiji period, had a long-standing reputation amongst locals as an area to be avoided at all costs, though no formal documentation existed at the time. That October, an investigation of the site was initiated by the Kyoto Prefectural Police, focusing on the aforementioned ruins and the surrounding forested terrain. Despite extensive searches, no trace of the missing individuals was found. Due to the lack of leads and an increase in public scrutiny, the investigation was officially called off in January of 1984. The disappearances were classed as unresolved, and the site was sealed on the pretense of "structural instability." In April of 1988, an unaffiliated civilian exploring the Mount Hiei monastery ruins discovered a handheld camcorder approximately several hundred meters from the original search area. The device was promptly submitted to the Kyoto Prefectural Police's Headquarters, where an unmarked VHS cassette was recovered. Foundation assets embedded within the prefectural police unit intercepted the cassette's contents shortly after. Said contents have remained classified and unreleased by Kyoto's government offices. Incident Log 9463-NCΔ <BEGIN LOG> Initial conditions met standard protocol. SCP-9463 exhibited all expected pre-feeding behaviors, such as extended eye contact, close physical proximity, and vocal reassurance. Contrary to external observations, subject D-████ showed no measurable signs of compliance or trance induction. At T+███ seconds, D-████ produced a bladed object - likely a switchblade knife - and inflicted a penetrating injury to SCP-9463's left arm. SCP-9463 immediately ceases all vocalization and movement. For approximately 3.6 seconds, the entity remained completely motionless. Pupil contractions are observed to an extreme degree. Due to camera resolution, SCP-9463's eyes appeared almost, if not entirely black. The entity stated that D-████'s actions were a "very, very bad idea". The caudal appendage began to growl. With no other warning indicators or transitional behavior, SCP-9463 initiated an extreme physical assault. Audio feed registered prolonged screaming, unidentifiable vocalizations originating from SCP-9463's caudal appendage, and a brief period of irregular laughter inconsistent with prior observations or behavioral profiles. Video and audio feeds were cut approximately 7 seconds into the attack due to motion saturation and safety protocols. However, the incident remained audible throughout the surrounding corridor network for approximately 30 seconds. Silence followed. <END LOG> Recorded audio of the incident. Post-Incident Assessment Approximately 1 minute after the attack had ceased, SCP-9463 was found sitting upright on a risen portion of its chamber. No injuries were sustained from the incident. A faint scar was observed at the site of initial penetration. No recoverable remains of D-████ were found. When questioned, SCP-9463 exhibited regular, compliant behavior and answered inquiries with minimal elaboration. When asked about the incident, it only stated: "That one was defective. I merely did what I had to do." No further explanation was given. Analyst Note: Dr. Kanashami "This incident in particular represents the only documented instance in which SCP-9463 abandons its established feeding strategy in favor of uncontrolled, immediate violence. The abruptness of this behavioral shift, and the equally abrupt reversal back to baseline effect, suggest that SCP-9463's restraint and compliance isn't instinctive like previously thought, but rather deliberate and maintained. This subject appears to be fully capable of predatory violence, yet chooses not to employ such under normal circumstances. This has significant implications for threat reassessment. It is entirely possible that SCP-9463's risk class will have to be moved to Danger (Danger The anomalous effect of the object is significant to extreme. An individual within close proximity of the object will feel major effects or may feel extreme effects from the anomalous object. It poses significant danger to any individual nearby.)"AS REPORTED BY O5-11 AT SITE-917
