Level 24 : Expert Princess

The seven seas are mysterious are wonderful. At least, they are on the surface.

When this contest started, I was kind of interested to see how I could incorporate multiple themes into a single skin while at the same time tryna make this a deep-sea theme, and it actually turned out better than I expected. In this overview, I'll go over what my endgoal was, among other things. Of course, you don't have to read all of this, but I just thought it'd help to get a better sense of what I wanted to go for.

Mood
The mood I was trying to convey was of a lost sea captain pulled under long ago, so do forgive any historical inaccuracies by the way. I also wanted to specify that he was pulled under by something bigger or more threatening, so I added scars to show his struggle. There's also a castaway element to this, since I wanted to show what being on an island for a long time does to you on the outside as well as on the inside. I achieved this by (at least) trying to contour his face so he looked worndown and hungry. Using the Alex template would have sacrificed the ruggedness of the skin, so that's why I didn't use it. Plus, there's a pegleg, so why not??!

Another way I tried to carry the message of, in a sense, desperation was by the unusually light colour of the skin.

Where the inspiration for the pale skin came from

In Ireland, there was a murder case where 2 sisters helped each other to kill and dismember the body of their mum's abusive boyfriend. After they cut him up into pieces, they resolved to throw the pieces into the river in binbags. They'd check back every so often to ensure the body parts didn't float up to the surface, yet it was all in vain since the body was eventually found. What was odd, though, was that when the body was found, it was nearly pearl-white, like the water was washing out all his melanin. That's where I got the inspiration for the skin colour from, if that makes sense.

Colour Palette
Next up is my choice of colours. I chose a muted colour set to play into the idea that Davy Jones' body was recovered from underwater, but the green of the seaweed would serve as eye-candy in the sense that it'd pop out and draw the user's eye. Also, a muted (or desaturated) colour palette is quite introspective and lonely, which is perfect for a castaway feel.
