Al Simons was a mercenary working for the USA until the day he was betrayed by his boss and died. In hell, he makes a deal with the devil to live again and see his wife.
The devil brought him back to life, but five years have passed and his boss is now married with Al's wife.
And he couldn't talk to her because he got deformed and she would not recognise him.
As the devil made his part of the deal (in some way), now was Al's time. He should kill bad people to make the hell army bigger and this would accelerate the Armageddon.
Al have now to fight against evil while he fights against his killing instincts as a new anti-Hero,
The Spawn.
