I reproduced the placement of a few elements using another author's Boba Fett skin as a reference, and I know that's a practice that's considered morally gray, but the entire skin was originally created by me pixel for pixel. As far as I know, there are no rules against imitation. "Using another skin as a base" implies that images were copied directly, but that's not what I've done. I do have some skins in my personal collection where I've borrowed parts from other skins, but I don't post those here. If you were to define imitation as the same as using a skin as a base, then all skins produced on the same topic as another skin would be considered to be in violation of the submission guidelines, which is a bit strong. Consider, for example, Hadowkai's Storm Trooper vs. Halucid's. Hadowkai's was created first while Halucid's is much more visually appealing. There are some elements that appear very similar, but being based on the same subject does not imply that one copies the other, it just means they share a common subject.
I give this detailed response because I've been working with the moderator community for a while now to find ways to improve the accuracy of skin submissions to Planet Minecraft, so details such as this have been on my mind recently. It's important to clearly define terms when approaching such as sensitive topic. One suggestion that's been made is to remove the ability to submit any skin that has ever been used in conjunction with NovaSkin, but NovaSkin is such a user-friendly skin development tool that it would be a bit extreme and potentially damaging to Planet Minecraft's reputation to put such a strong measure in place. I welcome your feedback on the issue.
What I am worried about is finding the original creator of this skin, because this same exact skin was uploaded about 5 days ago (and has been removed) and another exact copy of this skin exists here: www.planetminecraft.com/blog/can-you-subscribe-to-me-rant/#comments . Funny thing is, that uploader swears up and down to have made the skin from scratch and uploaded it only to this website... 13 days ago, while yours was uploaded 3 months ago.
Just trying to get to the bottom of this. Thank you so much for your time and sorry to bother you. =D
