Do I agree with the Floyd Riots?

The Floyd Riots are not the same as the Boston Tea Party, but they are similar. The Boston Tea Party is an illegal and destructive protest just like the Floyd Riots. Still the result of both, so far, are incredibly different.

This difference lies in their purposes:

The Boston Tea Party fights against a law that was not only unjust, but a law that went directly against the 1689 English Bill of Rights. A Bill that the American and British people were both legally bound by. The Boston Tea Party was a direct attack against a government who were ignoring their legal rights.

The Floyd Riots are more complicated. There are no direct laws that allow the abuse of black people in America. There is no law that can be abolished like with the Boston Tea Party. The law sees what is happening as unjust. Still the pattern of black mistreatment at best and killing at worst continues. Change is needed. Yet, after trying every clear way to protest the ugly cycle, it continues.

The Floyd Riots are not a call for change. They are people giving up on their government. Giving up and taking what they can by force. These people don’t believe the government will aid or protect them and so they are stealing the needed support. Looting for self preservation.

I do not agree with the Floyd Riots but it is important to understand why people do what they do.

I think that people have a right to be angry and tired, but the Floyd Riots are not only highlighting stereotypes about black people, but also most directly harming the people who are struggling during these hard times.

The Floyd Riots are horrible. They will accomplish no good. But to ask the riots to stop because “it won’t make a change” is like asking a blind man to stop covering his eyes so he can see. The blind man won’t believe he can see just because eyes aren’t covered. He’s blind. The Rioters won’t believe there will be change because they stop rioting. There hasn’t been.
