First things first, don't hold me to the historical accuracy of the hat. I couldn't find any good references and ran out of time. It's passable and so will have to do. There are only hours until the deadline, it's time to stop procrastinating.
Historical Splendour is a theme that can be interpreted in many ways, such as ancient kings or classical artists, or the fashions and customs of a culture long gone. It lets your imagination run wild, and I was over the moon when this theme was selected. I did some thinking, and there were many options, all as good as the last, but then I remembered a book I read a few years ago. Da Vinci's Tiger by L.M. Elliot. It's fiction, but the extensive research put in is apparent.
It is not, however, something I would have finished reading if I didn't need something to do, yet the story left an impression nonetheless. Based on a painting by Leonardo Da Vinci, it is told from the perspective of a young woman in Renaissance Florence, her character and life experiences are inspired by the historical sitter of the same painting. It was a time of remarkable investments into the arts but wow, I wouldn't' want to have been a woman at the time. The splendour is all very well, but there are so many things that make this day better. Ginevra, the protagonist, had a story which from my eye was very sad, but she was determined to make the best of it. I'm reluctant to go into more detail because it's a story best read without spoilers.
I used my imagination and some google searches to come up with the rest.
