Important Notes: Requires Optifine only if it is important for you to know what color and/or age the axolotls are. Conversely, it always requires MAVM or it is only a smiley axolotl pack like can be found on vanillatweaks. If you don't play modded, then I recommend www.vanillatweaks.net, as they have a pack that does the same thing.

As long as this texture pack is above all of your others, it will override the axolotl and axolotl bucket textures from vanilla and wherever else, and everything should work. Do note it is 16x16, so any higher resolution packs may bug out the textures. But I have no experience in this area.

Do you have More Axolotl Variants installed?
https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/mavm make sure you choose the forge version if you are using forge and the fabric version if you are using fabric. Also, note that it will not work on Bedrock edition even if converted, given there are no Bedrock ports of MAVM.

Optifine is only used on the buckets. If you don't need to know what is in the buckets, you don't need optifine. If you are a forge user, you can install optifine as a mod. If you are a fabric user, use CIT resewn. Again, this is only if you want to know the color and maybe the age of the axolotl without pulling them out of the buckets. I can supply links, but a quick internet search would be quicker. Just make sure you are on curseforge.com or optifine.net and you won't get any viruses.

I did not create the textures, I edited them all though. I added smiles to every axolotl and the buckets, but not the babies because they are too small to see a smile on. I prefer https://www.planetminecraft.com/texture-pack/more-axolotl-variants-texture-pack-cit-edition/ because the textures are cleaner, and the selection is mostly real world axolotls. But use the version you like more.
