đź“ťCreator's Note
This resource pack has been worked on for more than a year and has been tested in Minecraft 1.11 and above. Although this is a release version, there are still some things need to be added or tweaked to make this pack as good as possible. It's currently for Minecraft versions 1.11—1.12.2, the beta release for 1.13 is now available for download, and the 1.14 and 1.15 versions are being worked on slowly but surely. If you have any questions or problems with this resource pack, feel free to let me know. See the screenshots for visual details.
Important: Please read the license on this page before you use this resource pack.

đź“šBrief History
Minecraft is known for its pixelated textures from its early development days to its modern times. Up to version 1.13.2 on Java Edition, the default textures have been recognizable to many nostalgia players worldwide. In version 1.14, the new default textures have been added, which resulted in the old default textures to be separated from the Default Pack and placed in their in-game resource pack called Programmer Art. This applies to Bedrock Edition 1.10.0 and Playstation 4 Edition 1.90, but the old default textures are available in a free downloadable resource pack called Classic Textures. Some people like the new default textures better while others prefer to stay with the classic textures. Imagine what would happen if both classic and modern textures were put together in a single resource pack but with some improvements.

đź“śInformation
Default DX is a resource pack that overhauls the appearance of Minecraft simply by making it more natural and entertaining. It adds many features to the game, such as alternative textures and sounds, rather than replacing the existing ones with a few exceptions. Imagine seeing the clouds on the horizon, encountering camouflage Creepers in various biomes, staring at different flower variations, and placing new paintings on the wall at your house, base, or castle.

đź“„Features
Default DX includes but is not limited to the list below.
  • Additional block textures, including textures from Minecraft Alpha, Beta, and 1.14.
  • Block animations, including Torch and Redstone Torch.
  • Some texture replacements, like explosion particles and moon phases.
  • Some texture tweaks, including Cobblestone and Netherrack.
  • Additional sounds, including old sounds from Minecraft Alpha.
  • Mod support.
The following features below require the Optifine mod with or without Forge or any other mod loader.
  • Additional entity textures, including mobs and even paintings.
  • Entity animations, such as Blaze and Magma Cube.
  • Custom skyboxes, including horizon clouds.
  • Custom vanilla sky and fog colors for all biomes.
  • Fixed colormap for sugar cane (reeds) as of Minecraft 1.7.
  • Emissive textures for certain blocks and mobs, like Redstone Ore and Ghasts.
âš Disclaimer
I'm not responsible for the new default textures from Minecraft 1.14 or revisions of the new default textures before the release of 1.14 since they were made by Jasper Boerstra, a.k.a. Jappa. It’s recommended to give him credit for those textures.

âť“Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

General

Q. Does this resource pack require Optifine?
A. Not entirely. You can use it without the Optifine mod to see the vanilla features listed above; however, you may need it if you would like to see the Optifine features listed above as well. You can download the Optifine mod from the official Optifine website. Although there are released versions of that mod available for Minecraft 1.7.2 and above, there are also previews of it available to download before they get released. The previews are development versions of Optifine. It's recommended to either use the latest release of Optifine or the preview (development version) of it.

Note that if you're using this resource pack for 1.11 - 1.12.2, the 1.11.1 version of Optifine isn't available on the Optifine Downloads page. Check to see which versions of Optifine are available before you download it.

Q. Would I use shader packs with this resource pack?
A. You may if you like when you use the Optifine mod; however, it’s not recommended since they would have some weird results, such as the sun and the moon rotating in the diagonal position while the glow skyboxes for them still rotate in the vertical position, or having an extremely low frame rate (frames per second or FPS) if you’re using a less powerful computer.

If you still want to use shader packs with this resource pack, it’s recommended to turn Custom Sky off to disable skyboxes by going to the following path below when in the title screen or pause menu.

Options > Video Settings > Quality > Custom Sky: ON/OFF

It’s also recommended to use shader packs on a more powerful computer. Check the speculations of your computer to see what it has, including the graphics card and processor (computer’s speed).

Q. Does this resource pack support mods?
A. Yes; however, it requires permission from mod creators to use assets, such as textures and sounds, from their mods unless otherwise. At the moment, vanilla Creepers will have the ability to spawn with colors of natural blocks in underground areas and some surface biomes from mods, such as Biomes O’ Plenty or Traverse, but they’ll also spawn with different variants no matter what biome. The other vanilla mobs will spawn with variants regardless of which biomes they spawn in.

Q. Would I use the 1.12 version of this resource pack for 1.13 and above, or in 1.10 and below?
A. The 1.12 version works in versions 1.11 through 1.12.2. Using it for 1.13 and above, however, is not recommended since Mojang did the process called The Flattening that involves block states, such as adding, removing, or merging them, and some of the classic textures in the resource pack may not blend well with some the new default textures in 1.14 and above. As for 1.10 and below, it does work, but some Optifine features like random entity textures won’t work because old versions of Optifine have the legacy MCPatcher features.

Q. Would you make a Faithful version of this resource pack?
A. I have no plans on making the textures 32 pixels (32 x 32) or larger since it will take months or even years to make them faithful for every 16-pixel texture available. My goal is to keep the textures as default as 16 x 16 pixels.

Q. Why is your resource pack or project shown on other websites?
A. That's because some people managed to upload it elsewhere as they've failed to read the license shown above. Claiming my project as their own violates the license, and the issue should be addressed. The least they've should've done is to give me credit and provide a link to this page on CurseForge for people to download and use it during actual gameplay. If they've been downloading this resource pack from another website and not from CurseForge, it means they're not supporting me.

I highly recommend downloading it from CurseForge as some websites may contain malicious malware that can harm your computer. Use whatever anti-virus software you have installed to prevent your computer from virtual threats. Another thing to note is that when a project is uploaded to any website, search engines, such as Google and Bing, will pick it up and add it to their search results.

Q. Why do people download an old version of the Default DX resource the most?
A. A couple of possibilities would either be the issues they encountered on a new version or they've clicked on a link to an old version left be someone outside of CurseForge. This is common for Minecraft versions 1.11 - 1.12.2. The latest version has some newer features as well as some corrections. It's OK to use an old version of this resource pack, but try to use the latest version if you want.

Q. Why is Optifine F3 and below incompatible with Forge for Minecraft versions 1.13 - 1.14.3?
A. This is because the massive rewrite of the Forge mod loader for 1.13 and above, and they haven't been updated; therefore, camouflage Creepers and custom skyboxes will only be rendered in Minecraft 1.13 - 1.14.3 with only Optifine. A lightweight mod loader Rift can load the Optifine mod for 1.13 and 1.13.2; however, there aren’t many Rift mods for either version. Another lightweight mod loader Fabric can also load Optifine for 1.14 - 1.14.4 with an exception of 1.14.1, but it requires a mod called Optifabric to make it compatible with Fabric, and results vary depending on the version. The Fabric mod loader is available for Minecraft 1.14 and above, including snapshots and prereleases.

Q. If Minecraft 1.15 was released, what about Default DX for 1.14?
A. The Default DX resource pack for 1.14 is in the works, but it's incompatible for 1.15 and above due to modifications of the shield and banner texture mechanics for the game’s Default Pack, which is the in-game resource pack that can’t be removed or unloaded. Because of this, the 1.14 version will be ported to a separate 1.15 version with changes applied. This applies to future Minecraft versions. As of now, the 1.15 version is in the works.

Q. Can this resource pack increase the FPS (frames per second)?
A. To be honest, no. This resource pack doesn't increase the FPS. It only changes the appearance of the game. The only thing that can increase the FPS and the game's performance is the Optifine mod or another mod that does a similar function. Depending on the graphics card your computer has, there's a chance that it might reduce the FPS a little bit. If you want to have a higher FPS gameplay, use Optifine and a more powerful computer if you have one. There have been many FPS-boosting resource packs that were claimed to increase the FPS, which they don't.
Mobs

Q. Do camouflage Creepers change colors depending on which block they step on when using this resource pack?
A. No. That only works in mods. Creepers have a 50% chance of spawning with whatever color the natural block has on a biome. For example, if a Creeper spawns in the Plains biome, it would have the color of the grass block with a shade of green or in the Savanna biome that has the grass block with a different shade of green. If it spawns in caves, strongholds, or mine shafts, it would take the color of dirt or any of the stone blocks, such as andesite or diorite.

Q. Why won’t Creepers spawn with colors of natural blocks in mods that have the same biomes?
A. This is due to the biome names that mods have. If using Biomes O’ Plenty and Traverse that both have the exact biome name Glacier, for example, Creepers will take the colors of natural blocks in one of the two biomes while the other biome will have them spawning with just the original texture.

Q. If random entity textures work on Creepers and other vanilla mobs, would it apply to mobs from various mods?
A. Sadly, Optifine can’t apply that feature to mobs from various mods, such as The Aether or The Twilight Forest. This feature only works on vanilla entities, including mobs and even playable characters Steve and Alex.

Q. Can you add Herobrine to this resource pack?
A. If you’re referring to the hoax character Herobrine from an old creepypasta to be added as an actual mob or as a zombie variant, the answer is no. Only mods can add such entity to the game, but there’s a possibility that he might appear as a painting. Though, there’s no telling when. This applies to other hoax characters, including Entity 303.

Q. What’s going to happen to the Zombie Pigman in Minecraft 1.16?
A. Minecraft 1.16, the Nether Update, is an upcoming update that overhauls the Nether, such as adding three new biomes and the new Piglin mob. It has been confirmed that the Zombie Pigman will be renamed to Zombified Piglin. If Mojang plans on changing the texture of the Zombie Pigman once they rename it, the separate 1.16 version of the resource pack is going to have the new texture of that mob while the current texture will be for 1.14 and 1.15.
Paintings

Q. Why won’t additional paintings show up in 1.14 and above?
A. This is because paintings were separated into their files instead of being put together in a single image. Examples of individual files would be painting1.png and painting2.png. The game uses a different format to load a random individual painting, and Optifine doesn’t have the same format to load any additional paintings, yet, even if they were put in there own files. To see additional paintings of this resource pack in the game, use the 1.12 version for 1.11 - 1.12.2. The 1.13 version is available now as a beta for download.

I'm currently updating it to 1.13 and above. Even the beta release for 1.13 is already out, it's also being updated, and the 1.14 and 1.15 versions are in the works. Once I'm satisfied with the results for whichever version is ready, I'll release it. Please be patient since it takes time and effort to update it.
