try saving the image as and open the file, you'll notice that it is high res than 16x16 textures, they are upscaled because to make the wiki more larger, while 16x16 images on discord look really bad.

How does making custom models for blocks and items work? I would like to learn how so I can make this for version 1.8.

im not too familiar with how to make these, i had a lot of trouble making these so i couldnt explain it too well. however i think the 1.12 versions should work in 1.8, just ignore the warning

In version 1.9, the way blocks and items were modeled was changed. Because of this, the 1.12 versions should not work with versions before 1.9. I tried using the 1.12 versions in 1.8, and they do not work.

You need to unzip the file and choose a version, and then drag that folder into the resource packs folder.
