Both carrots and golden carrots were added on 12w34a, a snapshot for version 1.4, also known as the pretty scary update (One of the best updates IMO) back in 2012. But they had a... very strange texture, golden carrots had another texture change on 12w36a, and finally, both changed on 12w37a. I made a texture pack that brings back these textures for 1.17 (I recommend using programmer art).
