Is this what insanity looks like?
NOTICE:
There are two packs in the file. You must unzip the pack first!
Packs
- Fancier Walls is a dependency for all the other packs. They will not function correctly without it.
- Pick the add-on pack you want and put it ABOVE Fancier Walls. You may also use Fancier Walls by itself.
- The Alt packs will change the walls to match the new posts.
- The Pre_116 packs will make the pack work in an older version of the game.
Do you hate walls?
This pack fixes the following problems with walls:
- Hidden Faces:
Walls have various faces that are rendered but not visible. Take the classic item shape. That has 6 hidden faces. That's 6 faces consuming precious GPU power for literally no good reason! Now, what's visible are the only things rendered. No wasted GPU power. Will you tell the difference? Probably not, but in a game like Minecraft, every little bit helps.
- Texture Issues:
All materials are different, but they all use the same wall model. A model that may not accurately display the textures or even the right textures! Now, each material has an appropriate model for accurate texture display.
- No 4-way posts:
If you played Minecraft before 1.16, then you may remember posts being displayed inside 4-way walls. These posts are back in the game and appear better than before!
This pack makes the following visual enhancements:
- More Textures:
Most wall posts now use textures from different but similar materials. An example is Sandstone posts looking like Cut sandstone.
- Variated Models:
Blackstone, Blackstone Bricks, Nether Bricks, and Stone Bricks have a 10% chance to appear different.

I also experimented with the idea of using tall walls in the 1.15 version. However, it just came out wrong. The obvious culfacing issues could be easily fixed, but I personally think the posts look weird in a 2+ high wall. I could make the posts only appear in the corners, but that would eliminate post from appearing under things like lanterns. I would like to remove the posts completely in such a version, but then it would be no different than the pack that already exists. For now, I'm scrapping the idea.
Tons of work spent on planning, problem solving, and experimenting.
Tons of work spent on editing and optimizing blockstates.
Tons of work spent on finding every last misplaced comma.
... to remove every hidden face from the walls.
1.15 and lower version coming soon-ish.
It also brings back the 4-way wall posts! No need to whip out Ol' Debuggy anymore!
Ironically, Mojang actually added a wall for almost every type of Blackstone, so my choices for alt textures were very limited. These are my changes.
- "Raw" Blackstone uses the correct texture on top.
- Polished Blackstone now has proper edging on the post.
- Blackstone Bricks uses the Chiseled Texture on the post.
I almost put the Gilded texture on the "Raw" version, but I decided that was probably a bad idea.
A Soul Lantern from 1.16 snapshot
version is 1.14.4
This was specifically made for 1.14, because I believe this version is more popular than 1.15 at the moment (but I could be wrong). However, this version should work in any non-1.16 game. This new pack uses older blockstate files that should be compatible in any non-1.16 game.
