i can only go up 128x smooth with mcpatcher,i haven't tried 256x with optifine though......hmmmm

my computer can barely handle 64x, and that makes it crash frquently (i prefer 16x because of this

You should try out Optifine, if you can barely handle 64. I use it and now I can use plenty of textures 64 and up
