=============Cancer==============
Even though "The Fire" didn't do well, I'm here again with another
story. This one actually happens in the same universe as "The Fire"
(Disclaimer: This is pure fiction, none of the events
depicted here are real.)
=============The Story=============
"We're going to do a quick test, but you'll have to be sedated,okay?" said the doctor. I replied "Okay, just do gas please. I don't like needles."
One of his assistants put a mask over my face. I slowly drifted off into sleep. Before I know it I'm awake, and in a recovery bed. A women in a nurse's garb hands me a glass of water and says "Drink. It will help."
I sit in the lobby waiting for my test results, later a nurse comes out the door and escorts me to a examination room, the doctor was waiting for me sitting in a chair. As I sit down he begins to talk. "I'm sorry miss, but you proved positive on terminal cancer, we don't know what kind." I begin to exclaim to him that it must be a false positive but he interrupts me and says "A hospital car will pick you up and to take you to the cancer center downtown in a couple of days. Pack anything you want to bring with you." And with that he walked out of the room. I walked out of the room, signed out and went out to my car.

That night once the kids were asleep, I told my husband about the test results.
He said "It's okay Trisha, the doctors at the cancer center are very good. I'm sure they'll take care of the cancer." I replied "I hope so. Timothy would be devastated if he lost anyone else. He already lost his best friend in the fire at the school. He's only eleven, it's already too much to handle."

The next day I woke up and called a family meeting. Timothy and his little sister Samantha sat on the coach, my husband sat in the arm chair and I sat down on the floor. I began to explain the situation. "Now, little guys. Mommy is very sick, and some people are going to take me to the hospital. Some very nice doctors are going to make me all better. But you have to be good because Daddy is going be all by himself. Okay?" Timothy cuddled up in fear, but Samantha started asking questions.
"Mommy, am I gonna get your germs?" I replied saying "No sweetie, this is a kind of sick that doesn't have any germs." Samantha said "Okay good because I don't like being sick. It's no fun at all." I dismissed the meeting saying "Okay, now go play while Mommy packs to go to the hospital." I went to my room and began packing. I packed our family picture, a blanket and a few other things. The next day the door bell rang at about nine thirty and the hospital car drove me downtown.

I was taken up to my room, and the nurses helped me settle in. A few hours later a doctor came in and introduced himself. "Hello, I'm Doctor Scott. I'm a cancer specialist, and I'm going to be your doctor. We're going to diagnose what type of cancer you have. First we're going to run some blood tests." I reply saying "Okay." The doctor plunged the needle into my inner elbow and blood immediately started flowing through the tube into the containers. Before I knew it he had filled two containers, he withdrew the needle and spoke. "That's all we need. I'll be back in a few minutes with results. In the mean time watch some television." He smiles kindly and walks out of the room. I turn on the television, HGTV is on. I sit quietly and watch the television for a few minutes until the doctor returns. He begins his diagnoses "The test results imply that you have lung-cancer. Which as you can imagine is cancer in the lungs. Before we start any further treatment you need some rest, we'll start treatment tomorrow. Okay?" I reply saying "Okay. Can I have guests?" Scott replies "Sure, shall I call your family?"
replying, I say "Thank you, that would be wonderful." He exits the room, kindly smiling back at me. I turn the television on again, I change the channel to Discovery. Something about pumpkin launching, I change the channel again and sit contently watching.

A few hours later my family walk in the room. I sit up and Samantha runs up and hugs me, Timothy sits down on my bed but doesn't speak. My husband Tristan asks me "Honey, are you doing okay?" I reply saying "I'm doing fine, I see Samantha is happy to see me." I proclaim a group hug, and everyone comes and hugs me. I say "Treatment is going to start tomorrow." Tristan replies "You can do it Trisha." Dr. Scott comes in and tells them to leave the room. They leave promptly and Scott begins to speak. "How are you doing Trisha?" I promptly reply and say I'm doing fine. "I'm just going to take your vitals okay?" I nod and Scott takes my blood pressure, pulse, and oxygen intake. "Okay all finished, I'll leave you to yourself now." Scott leaves the room with a kind smile.

The next day Scott comes in and says it's time to start treatment. He leaves and two nurses come in and pull my stretcher to the surgery room. Dr. Scott is waiting for me and begins to speak. "We're going to sedate you okay?" A nurse places a mask over my face and I quickly fall asleep. I wake up in a recovery bed and Dr. Scott tells me that they couldn't remove the tumor safely. I'm moved back to my room and I wait for Dr. Scott. He comes in and says "Since we couldn't remove the tumor, we're going to put on chemotherapy." I reply and say "Okay, when are we starting?" He replies saying "In a couple of hours I'll come in and give your first dose." He leaves the room and I drift off to sleep. I wake up to Dr. Scott, he pushes a needle into my arm and injects a medicine. "Okay there is your first dose. You're going to get a dose every day okay?" I reply nodding and he leaves the room again.

Time passes as usual, mostly sleeping and waking up for meals and injections. One day when I'm eating oatmeal in my room Scott walks in and says that the previous ultra-sound showed that the tumor is almost gone. "The tumor is almost gone, some radiation should kill it off. When you finish eating we'll give you radiation okay? I nod and finish eating. Two nurses once again move my stretcher to the radiation room. I'm put to sleep and radiate.

I wake up and Scott tells me "Good news, we killed the tumor. You'll be discharged tomorrow." I sit bolt up right and smile "Thank you Scott." Scott replies saying "Your welcome." And leaves the room. The next day I'm shuttled back home. The nurse rings the doorbell and Tristan opens it. He grins and calls the kids. Samantha and Timothy run up and hug me, Samantha asks "Did the doctors make you all better?" I reply saying "Yes, I'm all better now."
