This is my second review ever since...I think 2-3 years ago but I'm still newbie
I chose this movie because most of this society might not be familiar of this Japanese film, and since I found it, I thought, hey this would be a great movie to review because its not very well known so enjoy.


It has 7.8/10 in ranking on IMDb which is good to know that the majority enjoyed it. I don't know, just putting it out there.

to start off, ill give you a summary on the story of this movie; Cat Soup is a 30min experimental 2001 Japanese anime film directed by Tatsuo Satō, inspired by the work of manga artist Nekojiru. The surreal film follows Nyatta, an anthropomorphic kitten, on his travel to the land of the dead and back in an effort to save his sister's soul.

It might seem innocent enough but there is some gore, language, and partial nudity...well i only saw a wall of paintings of a woman's breast, just to inform you this is a rated R movie, so children, don't watch it unless your parents are chill.

I am watching the movie over again to get my memories back since its been awhile and i forgot a lot xD. I wanted to review this movie in particular because of well, the psychedelic, trippy, and odd atmosphere...thats what i love most in this movie.

[The Story From Beginning]




I will be telling the beginning of the story because it will be hard to explain everything. I wanted to share this so you can get a taste of it, even though I don't explain the beginning good enough.

It starts off with the sister of the main protagonist playing with her car toe truck under water, falling into the water, giving flashbacks of her in bed, dead, which the weird part that confused me was that the main protagonist climbs out of the pool that the sister was drowning in with no signs of her around. The sister laid in bed soulless.



The brother (there are no names given to these characters so bear with me) takes his sister to a circus show, she sits there with a blank stare at the ground with white eyes. The last circus act brings some....bubbly giant with clouds inside, the performers fill the bubble with a storm, later on it rains inside the bubble, filling up until it bursts, making all the guests run out of the tent, while the water filled the whole planet, covered in ocean.



They wind up on a boat with a pig in clothing coming into frame, the brother takes off all its clothes and unzips its lower torso for its meat to cook, (its weird ik, but here it comes) they give the pigs own cooked meat for it to eat...it ate it...like what?


I don't want to get too into because it will be endless paragraphs of telling the whole story so this is just the beginning.




[WHAT I THINK OF THIS MOVIE]


It would be better with dialogue instead of mostly no audio in some scenes, it get a little bit boring while watching it, but I think it might have to tie in with the artistic side.

It is very artistic in itself, the plot is visible to most viewers even without dialogue from the main characters and side characters.

It's very trippy, sometimes an acid trip, which is what i enjoyed most in this movie, the fact that the movie will confuse your minds during most scenes, sometimes confuse you entirely.

The main characters are likable which is a good element for a good movie. The plot is never disappearing through scene to scene, it stays on task while the main characters are set off into their journey.

There wasn't many flaws in this movie, honestly I think this movie was spot on ^3^
