*NOTE* This story is FAKE, meaning I made it up. Nothing in this story really happened. Thanks.
One crisp winter day, a teenage girl named Kaitlyn was walking home from school when she saw a shadow on the sidewalk behind her, she whirled around and saw nobody, so she dismissed the shadow as a figment of her imagination and continued walking. A little while later, it was begining to get dark, so when the shadow appeared again, right behind her, Kaitlyn was so scared she ran the rest of the way home. When she reached her front porch, Kaitlyn raced up the steps and pulled on the door knob, it didn't open. She pounded on the door, expecting her mother to race to the door and open it, but she didn't Kaitlyn ran to the backyard and pulled on the door knob, it opened and Kaitlyn ran inside, locking the back door behind her. "MOM?" called out Kaitlyn, searching the living room and kitchen. Her mother wasn't there. Kaitlyn was starting to get scared as she searched the entire house, except the one place she had never been in all of the 4 years she had lived in her house, the attic. It was the one place she hadn't checked. Kaitlyn knew she had to check there, but as she reached for the door knob, she felt a shock and she jumped back, bumping into the table and knocking over her mom's favorite vase, she expected an immediate CRASH, but there was nothing. Kaitlyn turned around and saw the vase floating in mid-air, as if held up by invisible hands. She screamed and ran to the attic's trap door. She pulled the strap and the door swung open. Kaitlyn pulled the ladder down and half climbed half ran up the ladder. At the top, she pulled the ladder up and slammed the door shut. She felt a little safer now that that THING was down there and not with her. Kaitlyn closed her eyes and then got up and began to search the huge attic for her mom. Suddenly there was a cracking noise and the attic window shattered, spraying glass everywhere. Kaitlyn was knocked off her feet and she hit the ground with an enormous thud. The attic started to shake. Kaitlyn was thrown into the wall and landed on an old looking, dusty chest. The shaking stopped. She thought it was strange that the shaking stopped as soon as she touched the chest, so she flipped the latch and opened the lid. There was a bunch of old photographs, clothes, and a creepy, one-eyed baby doll. The pictures were of a family of 3. A mother, a father, and what appeared to be their tiny toddler daughter. Kaitlyn frowned as she read a missing persons poster for the little girl from the family photo, and she knew right then right there, she knew. That little girl was never found because Kaitlyn WAS the girl. Her mother had told her she was adopted, but what if that wasn't the whole story. What is kaitlyn's mom had been the one that took that girl, took HER, all those years ago. She gasped and let the picture slip to the ground. The shadow. The shadow, she now knew, was her dad. An article said that her father had chased the kidnapper until they turned around and shot her dad in the head, killing him instantly. She knew that the ghost of her dad was trying to warn her, to get her out of that house and back to her real family. Kaitlyn felt a hand on her shoulder and turned to see her father, a wispy ghost version of him, but still him. She cried and thanked him for helping her. The ghost smiled and then faded away, his mission complete. That was when Kaitlyn remembered her 'mom' had a doctors appointment that day and would be home any minute. Kaitlyn grabbed the contents of the chest and then snatched a backpack from the floor of the attic and stuffed it all in. Kaitlyn ran downstairs and threw open the back door, she ran to the neighbors house and knocked on the door. Mrs. Jhonson, her neighbor and science teacher. She explained everything to Mrs. Jhonson, showing her the photos. Mrs. Jhonson recognized the woman and automatically believed Kaitlyn. The 2 called the police and they located Kaitlyn's real mother. The reunion was teary and there was a lot of explaining, but Kaitlyn had found her real mom, and the police were on their way to pick up the kidnapper that had posed as her mom. Everything was right, except 1 thing. The shadow still followed behind her.
