The inspiration for this story came from a League of Legends song known as 'Tidecaller.' It really just seemed to transport me into this imaginary world, and thus, the idea of the book came. (P.S. This is a WIP Book meaning more storyline will be added to this blog. )

NOTE: This is a story I am going to be publishing in the future, most likely. Therefore, DO NOT, under any circumstances, steal any of this writing or any of my ideas, as that would not only be plagiarism, but it would also be rude and disrespectful towards me. I've worked hard on this story and I am not going to appreciate everything going to waste.

A Child's Dream

Our story begins with a young child asleep in her bed, with a dream most little girls have, but this dream was so much more… Cassey Light, a nine-year-old girl with a heart that’s kinder than most, finds herself in a magical land that she has never dreamt of before.

Cassey wakes up slowly, something tickling her face. Opening her eyes slightly, she looks around and sees that she is not in her bedroom, but instead she is in a forest, lying in a small clearing. All about her are glowing trees, sparkling bells ringing in her ears. In the distance is a hill covered in lime-green grass as the sun beams down upon it from the heavens.

Cassey, although quite weary, manages to get up and feels she must climb to the top of that hill. Cassey runs forward, past the trees, and begins to climb up the rocky terrain, never diverting her eyesight from the peak she longed to reach. After much struggle, Cassey reached the top and gazed out.

In the distance, Cassey saw a large village. The village was protected by a circular wall of stone, in front of Casey being a drawbridge that led over the wide and treacherous moat of water surrounding it. In the center of the village was a large tree, which seemed to be a castle… it was beautiful, with towers reaching high into the sky and dozens of windows all about the walls. The leafy green dome above the castle kept the top rooms shaded and provided a comforting feeling.

To the right side of the village, Cassey saw a large mountain with a forest growing up along the sides. In front of the mountain, a large section showed a waterfall with sapphire-blue water pouring from above, forming a pool below. The mountain seemed to be filled with thrilling adventures and priceless secrets… Cassey wished she had the courage to go and explore, but it was so far away and she was quite hungry, not to mention thirsty. Looking to the left of the village, Cassey saw an open plain with a dirt road running right through the center. Scattered about the plain were farms, some growing wheat, some growing vegetables, and others growing fruit or raising livestock.

Cassey looked back at the castle… she had a desire to go to it, the same desire she had earlier to reach the top of the hill. Looking up, she saw the sun was high in the sky, so she had plenty of time to reach the village before sunset. She started to jog down the mountain, making sure not to slip on any loose rocks or wet grass. Once she reached the bottom, Cassey broke into a run and neared the gate.

She soon approached and gazed up, realizing just how tall the wall was… she doubted anyone could climb that high. With a deep breath and a thrilling feeling in her chest, Cassey entered the village. As she walked along the pathways, Cassey looked around, seeing all the fairies from the village flying to the castle.

“Hey, why aren’t you using your wings?” Cassey heard a sweet voice behind her say.

Cassey turned around and saw a fairy that looked around her age. The fairy had brown hair reaching down to the middle of her back and kind brown eyes. She was in a sleeveless pale purple dress with matching purple flats. Cassey peered over her shoulder and saw a pair of silver wings… how had she gotten these? She then looked at her outfit… she was in a gorgeous blue dress, sleeveless and sparkling, and her blue flats matched it perfectly.

“Oh, I don’t know how I got these…” Cassey replied.

“Well all fairies have wings. Here, come on up here!” the fairy said, pulling Cassey up into the air.

Cassey’s wings began to flutter back and forth, propelling her higher into the sky when the fairy let go of her hand. Cassey was amazed… she was actually a fairy. After a couple minutes, she got the hang of flying around and smiled brightly as the wind rushed through her black hair.

“You aren’t a fairy from around here, are you?” the fairy said from below, watching Cassey have the time of her life.

“Not exactly.” Cassey replied with a smile.

“Well, you came here on the best day. Today is our annual Magnolia Festival. Follow me!” the fairy said, flying off to the castle.

Cassey followed the fairy, coming nearer to the castle. She was amazed at how large and beautiful it was, even more so than before… all the windows were various colors of stained glass, the towers large and big enough for an entire bedroom. Nearer to the bottom, the castle grew larger, and the large room with the glass dome was what Cassey presumed to be the throne room.

“By the way, what’s your name?” Cassey asked once she caught up with the fairy, descending down and entering the castle by the fairy’s side.

“I’m Abigale Sparkle, and you are?”

   “Cassey Light.”

   “Pleasure to meet you.”

Suddenly, large bells rung from inside the castle, the fairies soon zooming in and waiting with anticipation before the large golden doors in front of them. Cassey flew up to front, watching as the doors slowly opened, as if teasing to what was inside. A fairy flew out through the small opening, holding a scroll of parchment in her hand. She had red hair, forest green eyes, and wore an ivy green dress with elbow-length sleeves with matching flats. She cleared her throat and began to read aloud.

“Welcome to the Magnolia Festival! This festival is to celebrate the Tree of Light and the protection it has given us, and continues to give us, over the many centuries we have dwelled here. Every year we fly around the tree and with the magic of kindness fuel the tree to protect us for another year. Without this event, the tree would not have the magic to protect us.

“Long ago, we would only fly around the tree, but thanks to Queen Marian, we can have some fun with it!” the fairy said with a giggle, soon resuming the speech, “These past few years we have been able to perform a special dance as our orchestra plays Tidecaller, a special song that shows the magic and the kindness all of us have in our hearts. So, with that said, let’s start the festival!”

The golden doors opened wide and all the fairies fluttered inside, beginning to form positions high in the sky. Cassey gazed up as the fairies began to dance around the tree gracefully, almost in a magical way. She saw silver sparkles fill the air, soon rushing towards the tree. Cassey began to flutter her wings and fly up, beginning to join in the dance, somehow knowing it. She danced beautifully as she saw even more sparkles fill the air.

Without knowing it, Cassey danced into the center, dancing more gracefully than any of the other fairies. She smiled brightly as the music ended, all the fairies holding hands in a circle as she was still in the center. Off to the side, unknowingly, none other than Queen Marian had spotted Cassey.

“Well what might your name be?” Queen Marian asked, flying closer to Cassey.

Queen Marian had brown hair, held up in a bun, with a silver crown resting atop the center of her head. She had pale blue eyes and wore a beautiful pale pink dress that flowed about as she flew around, her flats a pale silver.

“My name is Cassey Light, your majesty.” Cassey replied, doing her best to curtsey.

“I have been waiting for the Girl of Light to come to this land… she is to be the princess of this land. And finally, you have come to our kingdom.”

“Me? A princess?” Cassey said surprised… she couldn’t believe it.

“Indeed.” Queen Marian replied, “I will show you this land and guide you through everything in it. Follow me.”

More Than Just a Dream

Queen Marian slowly ascended up the hillside, Cassey making sure to follow right behind. They soon reached the top and walked out on the small stretch of land, seeing the gorgeous view of everything. The kingdom; the farms; the waterfall; gargantuan forests; small villages; the place where Cassey had arrived.

“This is… incredible.” Cassey said in amazement as she continued to gaze out.

“This is the entire kingdom… everything you see is what I rule, and soon, what you will rule.” Queen Marian replied, smiling.

   “Everything?”

“Yes. It is difficult at times, but I have never enjoyed anything more.”

Cassey looked around her once more, taking in all the beauty. This place was amazing… and she still couldn’t believe she was the Girl of Light, said to rule the kingdom.

“The kingdom with the wall of stone surrounding it is known as Aeterna. That kingdom has stood for many centuries, and the Tree of Light continues to protect us fairies and grant us our magical powers. To this day, it has protected us from the darkness that comes from the outside.”

“Really?” Cassey asked, her eyes filled with wonder.

“Indeed.” Queen Marian replied, still smiling as she looked about.

“But… what does the darkness do to us?”

Queen Marian’s smile suddenly faded away, the earth becoming dark and a blistering breeze blowing by, sending chills down Cassey’s spine. A look of worry filled the queen’s face as she spoke, her voice much more serious with a stinging feeling to each word pronounced.

“The darkness is something that kills us.” Queen Marian turned around, facing the dark forest behind the hills, “All fairies who have ventured there have never returned, or never returned the same. The darkness infects us like a disease, and there is no cure for it… not even my powers have been able to return a fairy back lato normal.

“It is said that the darkness enters us… it fills our body and turns what we say into twisted lies. The more lies we tell, the more the black scars appear on our body, and soon we are nothing more than a shadow, hiding from the light so we don’t disappear forever.”

A look of shock now crossed Cassey’s face. She couldn’t believe it… a fairy becoming twisted by an incurable sickness, and only living afraid of the world around them? It was utterly terrifying.

“About a decade ago, there was one fairy whose outcome wasn’t the same of the others.” Queen Marian began, the world turning normal once again and her sweet voice returning, “A fairy boy went out in search of his little brother, but when he returned a few days later, he had returned brother-less and crying; his brother had died to the darkness outside, completely engulfing his body.

“Though a few days later, this fairy changed… he became emotionless. We didn’t know if he’d been afflicted from the same darkness as well, but it didn’t seem the same. Later that year at the time of the Magnolia Festival, he put darkness into the tree the night before, so when the ceremony was performed, it turned all the fairies evil ad obedient to him.

“With the Tree of Light becoming, in a sense, a Tree of Darkness, the kingdom would become a kingdom of darkness. But when all hope was lost… a ball of light appeared. It cleansed the tree of all the darkness, removing the darkness that was brought to the kingdom. The evil fairy was put in an imprisonment of loneliness, stuck in a far off place in the kingdom, never to leave that spot.

“Before the ball of light disappeared, it spoke of a day where a child of light would come to our kingdom and would become the ruler of the land forever, destroying the darkness that kept us trapped on the inside.”

“Who was this dark fairy?” Cassey asked, even more curious than before now.

“I think it is best that you not know who it is for now. One day, when you are older, I will tell you who the fairy in this tale is… you might be able to help him then.”

“I understand… but, do you really think I’ll bring light to this whole land?”

“I believe you will. Maybe not now, but soon enough I believe you will do what is written in the tales.”

With a bright smile on Cassey’s face, she says goodbye to Queen Marian. She skips down the hillside, running back to the spot where she had first appeared in the land, laying down and closing her eyes. And when she opened them, she was no longer in the magical world… she was awake, and it was bright and early in the morning.

Two years had passed since Cassey’s first travel to the magical land. Every night, she would live out her dreams there, however it felt different… as if it were real. She didn’t understand it; it was as if there were two realities for her.

Every time Cassey visited the magical land, she would visit the other fairies, spend time in the village, and at the end of the day, she would always ask Queen Marian if she was old enough to hear the rest of the story. Yet the reply was never what Cassey hoped for.

One day, on that same hilltop she first heard the story, she was sitting with Queen Marian, taking in the land and all its beauty. Cassey turned to Queen Marian and asked her once more… if she was old enough to hear the rest of the story.

“I believe you are finally old enough.” Queen Marian said, turning to Cassey, “So the fairy in the story is Deon Mason. As a child… he never really fit in. His brother would want him to play with him and his friends, but he never would, because the first time he did, he would be called a weirdo and get laughed at.”

“That doesn’t sound very nice.” Cassey replied, feeling sorry for him a little.

“Indeed, it was not very nice of the young fairies to do. When he was a little older, he found out he had powers. When he was picked on those fairies once more, he accidently destroyed the happiness in their hearts.”

“So he had dark powers before he left the kingdom that day?!” Cassey said in shock.

“Yes, he did.” Queen Marian replied, her head hanging slightly low, “After he had used his powers for the first time, lots of fairies feared him, and he feared himself. Becoming more isolated than before, he was constantly worrying that he’d hurt his brother with these new found powers.

“One day, his brother left the kingdom with no one knowing. It was said he went to beg the darkness to relieve his older brother of his powers.”

“Really?” Cassey asked, intrigued by the truth of the story.

“It was only made as a rumor… it has never been confirmed. Though we should be certain that Deon found out why his brother left. That is everything I can tell you, though. Even with what I know, the story is still flawed in a way. The only one that would know the full story is the one who lived it himself.”

   “Deon.”

   “Yes, he would know everything.”

Two more years had passed since Cassey had learned the story. She was now thirteen years old, still just as kind and generous as she was four years ago. Cassey had been returning to the world every night, still admiring its beauty even after she had explored everywhere, it seemed. However, new secrets always came about.

Cassey was in the kingdom, eating with her best friend, Abigale Sparkle. Cassey still remembered the day they met as if it were only a few days ago… she and Abigale had grown quite close over the years and loved spending time with one another whenever they had the chance.

“How have you been girl? We haven’t hung out in a while.” Abigale said as she smiled brightly at Cassey.

“I’ve just been exploring as usual, Abby.” Cassey replied, laughing.

“But you’ve already explored the whole land!” Abby said, laughing along with Cassey, “How much more exploring do you need to do?”

“Well, every time I go to a spot that I’ve been to, I find something interesting. This land is full of surprises, sometimes. One day, I think I’ve found everything, and the next there is more to discover.”

“You are quite the explorer Cass, I have to hand it to you.”

As the girls were both laughing and having a good time, Queen Marian approached them.

“Hello young fairies, how has your day been?” Queen Marian asked.

“Awesome as usual.” Abby replied with a big smile.”

“Cassey,” Queen Marian began, “If it’s not any trouble, do you mind if I talk to you for a moment?”

“No, it’s no trouble at all.” Cassey replied, “I’ll be right back, okay Abby?”

“Okay Cass.” Abby replied, still smiling, “I’ll be here when you get back.”

Cassey followed Queen Marian to the hilltop where they would have most of their conversations.

“There’s something I need to tell you, Cassey.” Queen Marian said as Cassey sat down.

“What is it?” Cassey replied, curious and a little bit worried, “Is there something wrong?”

“No, not at all.” Queen Marian said with a small smile, “I was wondering if there was something you had discovered in your travels.”

“Oh, yeah… it’s pretty amazing, this place; so much to see and so many secrets when you spend a day in a spot.”

   “Have you explored everything, Cassey?”

“Um, I think so… why do you ask?” Cassey replied, wondering where Queen Marian was going with this.

“Even the far end in the kingdom where Deon lives?”

“Oh, I haven’t been there actually.” Cassey said, wondering how she could forget that spot.

“Well, if you want to explore everything, then I guess you have to go there to find out the secrets there.” Queen Marian said, her smile hinting mystery.

“Are you telling me this because you believe I can help him?” Cassey asked in confusion.

“No, it’s not that… I feel that you should meet him, so he can tell you about himself; maybe find out parts of the story I was not even aware of.”

“I suppose I can go tomorrow.” Cassey replied, wondering who will be there to greet her.

“Well, you should go back with your friend now.” Queen Marian concluded, “Have a nice day, Cassey.”

“You too!” Cassey replied, “But… there is actually one more thing I want to ask you before I go.”

“What might that be, Cassey?” Queen Marian replied.

“Is this place real… or is this just a giant dream?” Cassey asked, looking up to the sky.

“Yes, this world in a sense is real. We exist, just not to the world you live in. We are an alternate world that very few can get to in their sleep. You are one of those few because you are meant to be here, as well as in your world. So at night in your world, you awake here; the same as for here. Does that answer your question, Cassey?”

“Yes, it did." Cassey replied with a big smile on her face, flying back to Abby soon after.

The next day, Cassey headed out for the far end of the kingdom. It took her quite some time, but soon she approached the house, seeing three fairies in front of it.

“Let us in, Deon!” one fairy yelled.

“Yeah, we just want to say hi!” the other one giggled.

The third one didn’t say a word, as if she was afraid.

After they kept asking, the door slowly opened, and at the door was a fairly young fairy, only a little older than Cassey. He had brown hair that fell in messy locks around his face, pale grey eyes, and was wearing a blue shirt and brown pants that were torn.

“Ew! You are so gross, Deon!” one fairy screamed.

“You are so weird!” the other shouted, “You smell! Please, take a shower!”

The third fairy was frozen in place, horrified of her friends’ provocation.

Cassey flew over to the house and stood in front of the door.

“Leave him alone!” she said angrily.

“Cassey, why would you protect that trash?” the first one said in shock.

“I’ll tell you one more time: Leave. Him. Alone.” Cassey said, quite annoyed at the fairies’ rude behavior.

“Fine, we’ll go. Come on girls.” the first fairy said, flying back to the kingdom.

The second one flipped her hair and followed while the third one flew off as quickly as she could, keeping up with the other fairies.

“Thanks, for making them leave.” Deon said softly as Cassey turned to face him.

“No problem at all.” Cassey replied, smiling radiantly.

“They’ve been coming here for a week, I thought they’d never leave me alone.” Deon finished with a sigh, “I’m Deon, as you heard by them.”

“Yeah, I know.” Cassey replied, “You brought an era of darkness to the kingdom.”

“Of course, that’s why you’re here.” Deon replied with an angered look.

“What’s that supposed to mean?” Cassey said, quite annoyed by what he said.

“You came here to find out the story. Isn’t that right, Cassey?” Deon said, smirking… you could literally hear it in his voice, as well.

“How do you know my name?” Cassey replied in shock.

“How could I not, you’re the Child of Light. You should be shocked if I didn’t.”

Cassey stared at him, wondering if that was really the case… or if it was something more than that.

"I would tell you everything, but there will be a time and place for that.” he said with an evil smile, making Cassey’s stomach churn, “You should head back before you fall asleep here, I’m sure you wouldn’t want that.”

Cassey looked at him, worried if it was really smart to come here after all.

“How do you know so much about me?” Cassey retorted, now quite angry with Deon, “Only Queen Marian and my best friend know about how I arrive here. But you… what do you know?”

“Because you just told me.” he replied with an evil grin plastered to his face, “I didn’t know anything about that, you just assumed I did. All I was saying is that you wouldn’t want to fall asleep here. I do appreciate the info you have given me, though.”

Casey looks at him in shock, as she may have given him information that he never needed to know. She takes off in a fury, annoyed both at Deon and herself.

On the way back, Cassey thought about everything that had happened… how Deon acted at first seemed so innocent, as if he never could have been capable of the crime he did. But once he was alone with her, he seemed completely different, like someone she was a little nervous around, and then she revealed her secrets to him which seemed to reveal Deon’s true nature.

“This Deon is really living up to his legacy.” Cassey thought to herself.

I notice that when you're describing the actions of Cassey, you use a lot of "Cassy __________". Remember, you can change it up! :)
