Oi, everyone! It's me, Ocean, and I'm kicking off the countdown for my birthday with a Blog.
Today's topic is: How have servers been changed, and are they even fun anymore? Are they a little random at times?
Now, I know what most of you are thinking: "No, they aren't, because Moajng screwed everyone over with the new EULA!!" First, no, they didn't, and second, read my Blog post on that here. But that's something completely different.
I've found that on most servers, especially some of the more popular ones, such as SkyDoesMinecraft, ShotBow, Hypixel, Mineplex, AntVenom, and many others, that the games on them just don't seem as fun anymore. I mean, yes, they are if you get on there and play them for the first time, but over time, they start to lose your interest, and then you don't ever feel like playing them anymore. I've actually gotten into the habit of feeling this way about SkyDoesMinecraft's server, and, believe it or not, Hypixel's server, despite that being one of my most loved servers of all time. But I think the real joy of the servers that are lesser known, like the ones I play on now, like CorsiaCraft, is that it's a fresh, clean slate from all the stuff you've done on other, more popular servers. I mean, it's not like I don't play on Hypixel's server anymore because I'm just not too into the whole Quake minigame anymore, oh, no. It's just that I felt that some lesser-known servers had better communities than others, and thought I'd join them to get in on the fun.
I've also found that some servers are just too laggy, or otherwise unplayable because of corrupt staff or owners that micromanage (and don't act like you don't if you do, I'm sure someone will be able to tell after a little while of playing on your server). There are also ones with no helpful plugins, such as grief prevention and other things of that nature, mainly the /sethome and /home commands, and also the ones without the Brewery and MCmmo plugins, which are probably my top two most favorite. I also don't care for factions, either, as you can't really report someone for griefing and stuff on those, since the Staff pretty much couldn't care less about what happens on the server.
Now, I know this may seem a little weird to think about, but in my opinion, the name you give to your server will result in different first impressions to it. So let's say Bob has a server, posts it on PMC, and calls it New Kingdoms Roleplay. Bill finds that server, and if he prefers Roleplay servers, he'll be more attracted to Bob's server, rather than Sven's server, which is factions with little to no rules. So if you name your server Bobbytown, you're more than likely to get more new players, rather than more experienced players. If you name your server WaterBucketcraft, most people probably will only join it because it sounds a lot less mature than other servers. Just thought I'd put that bit out there.
Anyways, I hope you all enjoyed reading! Please leave a Favorite or a Diamond if you did, and be sure to share it with your friends, family, heck, even your dog, for all I care! XD
And as always,
Peace, love, and tridents!

I also agree--but I don't agree with "why."
That sense of "newness" happens every time you join a new server. Then it fades. Maybe the player got too OP and there's no more challenge to it, maybe the player's friends never play anymore, maybe it's because it just doesn't seem the same.
There's a million reasons, but they all condense down to "this isn't as fun as I remember."
Your memory will always have a time bias, even if it wasn't actually as fun as you remember it to be. This is a a basic psychological function of your brain, as if often forgets "bad" and emphasizes "good."
This isn't a change in the servers, either.
This is how it's always been, since servers are player-generated content within the game. The quality, staff, content, players, lag, and so forth is always dependent on factors outside your control. There is no standardization.
Yes, the name you call your server influences one's impressions of it. But most people aren't very good at naming things and may not know the connotations of the name, or they decide they want to change it from Factions to Creative or what-have-you and the name is no longer even remotely relevant. Again, this is because it's user-generated and not created by the maker of the game.
The maker would have to consider all of these factors of staff, lag, plugins, server names, and so forth because a bad server would essentially mean that people stop playing the game. However, right now, a bad server just means that people will stop playing on it and find another.
I'm glad that you've aired your observations, they are true, but I think that they could go deeper.
Peace, love, and tridents!
