Actually, its not only that you need armour, but you need these stuff IF you are poor.
1. Boots - Boots are the most cheap stuff you can find.
2. Swords - I know, axes can slice, but you need these swords instead of breaking your axes coz axes are used for two stuff, Wood and fighting. So you better not be using all your axes, even through its useful.
3. Allies - the more , the merrier. Having people on your side adds more damage and advantage.
