Hello, allot of people get confused with the new Minecraft launcher, so I'm here to help you get the best use out of your Minecraft launcher.
First off, you'll want to make sure that the launcher stays open when you hit the big "Play" button. To do so, press the "Edit Profile" button in the lower left corner of the launcher. You will be greeted with the following,
.
Please note that some of the options you have may be different to the ones I have, don't worry. Where it says Launcher visibility, you'll want tick the box and then change it to "Keep the launcher open". This will allow you to revisit the console when in game, this could be useful if you're a server administrator and you need a copy of the chat. You don't have to do the next one, I strongly suggest it though. Tick where it says "Automatically ask Mojang for assistance with fixing crashes". This will be useful for the Mojang team to resolve Future crashes.
If you would like to add more RAM to your game, simply tick the JVM Arguments box in the lower left corner, then replace the number with the amount of ram you would like. For Example, if I wanted four gigabytes of ram I would put in the following, -Xmx4G. Please do not meet or exceed the amount of ram you have available on your computer! I suggest using half the amount of ram your computer holds! For example, if you have eight gigabytes of ram like I do, I would suggest using four gigabytes.
If you would like the change starting resolution, tick the box next to "Resolution". I have a 1080p HD monitor so I would put, 1920x1280.
I hope this tutorial blog has helped you get a better understanding of what some of the things in the Minecraft Launcher settings do. If you have any problems feel free to send me a PM on Planet Minecraft or send a Tweet to @Clyde404 on Twitter! I will most likely answer on here first, so if you're really stuck and need urgent help, contact me on here.
