Creeper Apocalypse

"Hissssssss..." Steve froze when he heard it, and knew they were coming for him.
He quickly closed his door and tried to sleep, but couldn't, the hissing filling his ear. He quickly got up and broke all of his stuff, and picked them up, putting them in his inventory.
He decided it wasn't safe to go out the front door, creepers liked to hide around corners, particularly when he was trying to escape.
Steve ended up digging down into the ground, heading underground where he knew they couldn't get unless they tore his house down and fell down. He put a block of dirt at the top to make it seem like he never left.
After digging down for a few seconds, he swapped to his pickaxe, and began collecting cobble, going straight forward now as he mined.
After a while, he came upon an opening in the wall, and dug through it, finding a small uninhabited underground room. As he stepped in, he thought he saw a pair of white eyes in the corner, but nobody was there, and he was left feeling scared, but safe.
He began placing his stuff and building a new door. He ended up blocking the way he came and putting the door next to his bed, in case they somehow did come down after him.
The next few days fell into an orderly pattern:
Mine.
Eat.
Sleep.
He was content for that, but then became aware that the white eyes were appearing more often than that first time.
Once, he was sitting in a corner, talking to himself, "I'm not crazy, it's just not real...." After he said that, the white eyes appeared next to his bed, and he thought he saw a hand reaching toward him, but he shook his head and the eyes disappeared.
"I really am going crazy, I won't make it out of here...." He said to himself.
At that moment, he heard the hissing of creepers and sat in the corner, all his tools next to him, his head in his hands. "No, no, no... Why?" He asked himself, shaking his head over and over.
Finally he collapsed and fell over, unconscious by unknown means.
When he awoke all of his stuff except his tools were gone, and there was a bright light in the opposite corner, and a ghost-like being there.
The bright light and the ghostly being disappeared, replaced by a swirling dark hole with hissing coming out of it.
"No, no, no...." Steve said to himself, standing up and holding his sword.
The portal did nothing, just released the hissing sound that a creeper makes.
"I wonder...." Steve said to himself, approaching the portal.
