Creepers; the well-known, green, nice-house-exploding staple mobs that practically represent Minecraft to many people nowadays. They are viewed as one of the most annoying enemies in the game, and a likely death to those new players starting their game, occasionally even for veterans of the game. Next to falling off a cliff, or plunging head-first into a pool of running lava, Creepers deliver one of the quickest, and easiest deaths to players in the game.

Found just about everywhere at any time of the day, weather it be at the crack of dawn or the midnight hours, they always seem to be looming somewhere where they're least expected; waiting for an opportunity to finish you off in a all-or-nothing explosion. Given the chance, such an outcome will occur to the unwary player.

Generally they are renowned for their classic "SSSsssss", or "sizzling like" sound they emit prior to explosion. If you aren't aware of them before they make this sound, odds are you are not going to get out of the blast radius in time to avoid damage.

The anatomy of the Creeper is actually not quite defined, but many refer to this insanely-popular depiction of such a body structure, inside and out:

Creepers..not as bad as we think?

Now, while they do come off as to most players, and in common terms, to be heartless, self-exploding creatures, that were made for the sole purpose of making your life in Minecraft as bad as can be. They're there with you underground by the lava pools as you mine the last block of diamond, there when you just finish adding the final touches to your house, and everywhere else where you may go. It may appear that Creeper's only purpose in life is to be rid of you, and that very well be true, but have you ever asked the question of why they would?

Surely they must have some reason for their persistence in ensuring your demise, going so far as to literally kill themselves for the chance to do so. I don't think any creature of any moral standing would retain such reserved hate for a human being, without some kind of instinct or need to do so. That leads me to believe that perhaps Creepers are not as we conceive them. Try to think of the world from their point of view, putting you in their position on the topic. Imagine it like this, some random guy came from seemingly out of nowhere, and instantly not only begins to threaten your home, but you yourself.

Now while, I can agree that not all people are aggressive to Creepers at first, remember that they have a kind of "predatory" nature to them. I'll use an image to try to display what I'm getting at here:

Creepers..not as bad as we think?

A fair argument on their part wouldn't you say? Again, you must keep in perspective the way they interpret things. To them, you're simply invading their territory and in fact destroying it for your own self-gain. Surviving is one thing, but expanding countless local resources on a lavish living space? You can't blame them for trying to blow up your nice house.

One thing I do realize is however, is that they don't "hate" humans in general. If you've noticed, they attack the player only, leaving villagers to themselves, unharmed and are never a threat to them. Perhaps this is because the villagers have relatively small and simple living spaces made of expendable resources, and live fairly secluded to themselves for their lifetime. In a sense, they live "with" nature so-to-speak, unlike the player.

Now how about the food chain in Minecraft..? Creepers themselves appear to have a "predatory" nature, but are most likely in fact, herbivores, eating plants, grass, or potentially blocks. This is supported through the fact that because their only possible way of hunting animals would be to explode (And then not be able to pick up the food.) Not to mention that they lack sharp teeth in order to do so.

I won't deny that I could be wrong here, as there are some fairly dark examples such as this one: "Creepers are fungal creatures that use exploding as a method of spreading their spores. the gunpowder you get from creepers are actually creeper spores. When creepers explode, they spray their spores over the surrounding area.

Young creepers are a parasitic fungus, and they prefer to feed upon the carcasses of living creatures, which is why creepers seek out living creatures and explode near them. They're spreading their spores onto a host that they can survive on into maturity."

It makes sense if you think about it, personally I believe that Creepers are the equivalent of white blood cells for the Minecraft world. Their job is to destroy the infection (players) which is polluting the world with their monuments to vanity. They are plant-spirits and use photosynthesis for food. In order to kill players they explode, which also allows the creeper to spread its seeds/spores on the newly exposed fertile ground, which later grow into new creepers.

All in all, it seems that Creepers may be some kind of flower, or such, much like the following:

Creepers..not as bad as we think?

See the Creeper faces? Confirmed. Haha, no that was a joke, but really, I think it may truly be an accurate theory behind them, and has some support to back it at that.

Leading back into the factor of Creepers being docile, you may have noticed that they attack nothing but the player, most of the time. You can see them exploding around their own kind and other entities, but generally, it will be you set as their main target. They will stalk you even, much living up to their name, within a 16-block-radius, before they give up pursuit.

The pressing matter remains however, is what their intentions are. Do they simply exist to seek your own personal demise, or would they do so in a grand-scale, should the situation arise? Are they really out there just to kill you out of sheer boredom, or is there a deeper meaning behind all this..? We may never find out, but a effort should be put forth into trying to do so. Just what are they..?

So, what do you think of them? Leave your thoughts in the box below, and thanks for reading guys!

No they're evil. But endermen are the real misjudged charicters. Like every single person on this server that I play on hates them and I don't see why. like if you don't look at them they're harmless and kinda cute imo.

My pet creepers keep on dying after I buy them.
I let them out of their cages, and they just explode.
What am I doing wrong?
