The night is cold, I lay in three blankets trying to sleep. The broken window let's in a draft of cold air. I breath in some air to warm up my hands. No, no I got out of bed and stared at my hands and feet. They were becoming see through, I started crying. I was going away to become one of them. I hit the wall, it left a loud crunch. Why couldn't I just be like the rest at first?
That morning I put on my violet dress. I had cut my hair above my shoulders, and grabbed a photo frame. Inside of it I looked happy, ah, the days before humanity was cursed. I am one the last humans, I remember even though I was sad I had some survivors with me.
Peyton was different, she kept on smiling until the very end. Her long blonde hair was bright like the sun. She had blue eyes that reflected beautifully in Summer. She was the first one to die, she held the two year old Nicholas and he was the last one to see her when she disappeared into nothing.
Micheal one year later. He wasn't afraid, he said he would join Peyton and those two would wait for us, his death left only me and the three year old Nicholas. I knew he was happy I was still alive, but then I realized something. I stared he was affected like me, I cried silently and woke him up.
"Let's die at the lake." he said. I nodded, that night we ran to the lake. It was called Dead Mans View, since it had the perfect view of the sky, and because the dead people turned into stars. I placed a candle and the photo on two rocks nearby. Nicholas was five when he died, at least he wouldn't be alone for a while. I was almost completely see through, he as well.
Nicholas was the first one to disappear, I started crying and he said in a kind gentle voice. "I don't like it when your sad, smile." I put on a sad smile. And I heard that little gentle laugh one more time, until when I looked at the sky voices said. We hope to see you soon Susan. The shooting star was Nicholas, I noticed my feet disappearing. I looked up at the moon.
"Ah, your souls are so beautiful." I said to the shooting star. I disappeared in the lake, and humanity died out for many years until the re-make happened. But all the people who died in the Disappearance live in the world of stars.
I looked at the indigo clouds. Beautiful they were, I looked to my left and smiled. Nicholas was pointing at other stars on top of Micheal's shoulders. Even though we had our families all of us still lived together, it wasn't a bad thing to disappear we learned. The man who caused it saved us from a fall of humanity, the disappearance was ordered from when they would die. I was meant to be the only survivor alive, but I would kill myself from grief.
My spirit sometimes goes down to Earth to check on humans. I am only seen to a young girl as she carries apart of my soul. Her sadness is relieved when she sees me, that is what I feel happy about. She was an author, and right now she is writing the story I tell her. Will you carry the story of the Disappearance?
