Hey guys,
Today I'm going to teach you how to make your very own Minecraft Server. I'd I'm going to break this into two parts. The first part will be how to create a private server hosted on your own computer, this will not be 24/7, and is not good for public servers, but is free. The second part will cover how to make a 24/7, public, fast, and paid server. With all that out of the way, lets get started!
First, I'm just going to clarify that this is for just playing vanilla with your friends. If you want a customizable bukkit server or instructions for windows, diamond this, and subscribe and might might make another tutorial.
Step 1: Download the latest minecraft_server.jar file from here.
Step 2: Make a folder on your Desktop. Call it whatever you want, and for now on I will refer to it "Folder_Name". Make sure not to use spaces in the folder name and only use underscores ( _ ). This will be important later.
Step 3: Drag your minecraft_server.jar file into that folder.
Step 4: Go into Finder then Applications, then scroll down until you see Utilities, open it, scroll down until you see Terminal. I recommend dragging it onto your dock bar on the bottom of your screen for easy access.
Step 5: Open Terminal. You should see some letters ending with a "$". Type EXACTLY this into it (minus the quotes of course) "cd Desktop/Folder_Name" then hit your enter key. Next, type (minus the quotes) "java -Xms1G -Xmx1G -jar minecraft_server.jar nogui". Now your server is started, but your friends can't play on it yet. You will need to do this every time to start your server.
Step 6: Go here and find your Internet router there, click it, select your model, and then find "Minecraft server" and click it. Then follow the directions.
Step 7: Download this and put on your dock bar for easy access. Open it, and click the "+" button on the bottom of it. Enter it the following - Local Port: 25565 Public Port: 25565 Protocol: TCP, and UDP Description: MC Server Reference String: Leave this blank!
Step 8: Make sure your new port map is always on when running your server. You and your friends will connect to it on the IP in big print on the top of your port mapper.
Step 9: Run the command /op In_Game_Name in the terminal window for each of your friends to let them build in certain areas and have creative mode and such. Only give this to people you trust.
