A few myths known about a mystical race made up of pure fire. Legends of people returning from a fiery fate. Stories of armies being immune to the flames of ancient dragons. Tales of the embred are rare and almost forgotten, humanoids that had once died but received another chance.
Born of Embers
When a humanoid perishes by the flames of a dark power, they very rarely can be revived by a true dragon, powerful deity, or another embodiment of fire, in a process called Kindling. This process takes many months, and could last for years. Once the Kindling is over, the target’s ashes come back together and form a body similar to the original one, with the skin and hair being darker and their eyes glowing red or orange.
Embred have very little to no memory of their former lives before their Kindling. The few memories they do have are fuzzy and vague. Many embred ask their Kindler information about their former lives, and will almost always believe anything their Kindler provides.
Kindled to Serve
The typical goal of Kindling is to create loyal servants with special traits, which is why many evil, powerful creatures burn down villages just to Kindle them up again. They then lie to their embred saying that they saved them from a fiery fate. The embred are so dazed and confused that they will believe their Kindler and think that they owe the Kindler their life.
Evil Kindlers may Kindle multiple times to increase their number of embred for use of soldiers, companions, or slaves. The embred cannot reproduce, and therefore the Kindler must create new embred over the years.
Kinder creatures will revive brave soldiers or innocent villagers to give them a second chance, and try to provide as much truthful information to their embred as possible.
Embred Names
Kindlers will usually tell an embred their name, or give them a new one. Others will let the embred create their own name.
Embred Traits
Your embred character has these traits in common with the few other Embred. They do not gain any traits from their past lives, only their appearance.
Ability Score Increase. Your Dexterity score increases by 2 and your Charisma score increases by 1.
Age. Embred do not age and remain at the age they were when they were Kindled.
Alignment. Most embred are lawful to the power that Kindled them, but it is not uncommon for embred to be chaotic due to their fiery nature.
Size. Your size is very similar to your size in the past.
Speed. Your base walking speed is 30ft.
Languages. You can speak, read, and write in common and one other language of your choice. Embred and their Kindler can communicate with each other through telepathy.
Fiery Friendship. You are immune to fire damage as long as you are not dying. You automatically get the cantrip Produce Flame.
Kindler. At 10th level, you gain the ability to Kindle. Out of every creature, embred can Kindle the fastest, only taking a few days. Kindling can be seen as a replacement for reproduction for the embred.
Requirements for Kindling to occur;
- Target must be humanoid
- Target must have died from fire that was started with evil intentions
- Kindling must begin before the next new moon
- Embreds cannot be re-Kindled
