Hello, I'm back with a new blog. I know that it's been a little while since I'd last done one, but I'd decided to make an update. With the recent pre-release of HyTale, (well this was before it came to pre-release) I made an art study of HyTale, which has a nice art style, but not where I wanted to take mine. So I'd decided to take a good look at Minecraft's textures, and found something surprising about their palettes.
The main thing I noticed other than the usual pixel art 'etiquette' was that their palettes were a little unregular with their colors. Hue shifting isn't applied that much and when it is, it's usually very little. They also like to go back and forth with their saturation, or occasionally apply not saturation change for most of the palette. And so with these two in mind, I decided to redo my Emerald Block texture from a while back, the new one as shown above, which honestly, I don't hate, it still retains most of what makes pixel art, pixel art, but they bent the rules for colors a bit to get a more unique color palette than retro pixel art.
In short, Minecraft has a peculiar art palette that lends to their game, allowing their colors to stay bright, but still retaining that nostalgic feel of pixel art. Hope you guys have a great rest of your day, I'll try to continue to make updates occasionally when I can, and if I don't cover it in a video, or just to post a random artwork I did. I'll see you all around, goodbye.
