Hello everyone!

In my Creative world named Experimental World, I am experimenting with redstone, and as you already know by the title, villagers.

I am absolutely dazzled by their AI, especially since 1.8, where farmers will harvest full-grown crops and replant them, and even share their collected food. So I started out by building a lab of iron blocks and a row of doors along one wall. Nearby, I placed a small farm, and finally I spawned three villagers.

One of them was a farmer, to harvest the crops, and the other two bred and populated the "village." With these two villagers I learnt about villager DNA, how it travels to their offspring, and also about village population and its maximum. This was very fascinating. Then I watched the farmer as it harvested the wheat. That was simply amazing. I have yet to see a villager share its food with another villager.

I will be updating this blog as I move forward with experimenting with the villagers. I will expand the village and add more doors to add more population, and with some separate villagers I will build a maze and watch their AI as they escape from zombies using doors and hills. With that I will also be watching the zombies' pathfind AI, and when I post about that then it could help for zombie attacks at night, and how to escape when you're low on supplies.

I am also getting villagers on the main server that I play on (Chaos Craft/Chaos of Worlds), and I’m using zombie villagers and some weakness potions and golden apples to get the villagers. This is a more interesting approach to the villager AI, because I am in Survival. Naturally, I am not doing this alone— I am being joined in this project for emeralds by a good friend, ZentaArc. It is very interesting, and though I will not be doing any zombies vs. villagers things in Survival (because zombie villagers aren’t common, so the villagers are precious), I will be doing it in my Experimental World.

I hope that this blog helped you by telling you some things about the improved villager AI, and if it didn’t then don’t worry, I will be updating this blog soon to include the latest updates on the Survival server villager AI experience and the zombies vs. villagers maze results will be posted here (unfortunately I cannot do as video, as that is out of my range of ability).

Results of the Villager vs. Zombies! : by Thrush 02/22/2015 12:27:08 pmFeb 22nd, 2015

I am now able to use Minecraft again (thanks so much to xXFLIP_CHARTXx), and I got to work!!
I did 3 rounds of villagers vs. zombies, and the results were surprisingly different than the test-run results, which I did in 1.8.1.
Results:
Round 1: 3 Villagers and 3 zombies were spawned. The villagers led the zombies into areas that you couldn't get out of (basically a room with a pressure plate to get in but no pressure plate to get out). This was, I presume, just something wrong with the Zombie AI and not something with the Villager AI. 2/3 villagers survived.
Round 2: 4 Villagers and 4 Zombies were spawned. The zombies were so aggressive this time that they pushed each other off the island (despite the fences I put around the island). 1/4 villagers survived.
Round 3: 5 Villagers and 5 zombies were spawned. Again, the zombies pushed each other off the island. 3/5 villagers survived.
