Weird Story Thingymajig!!


Kelp.
More kelp.
Scythe.
Pain.
Haimi swam to the bottom of the long piece of kelp and sat on a rock. The rock dug into his fins. It took the edge off the pain that was caused by the scythe. In these moments, he hated farming kelp. Deep down though, it was what calmed him. distracted him from his dream of the above-surface. The place where the Scubbas ruled, their water-choppng machines carrying them as if they weighed nothing. But Haimi could never go up like all those without the curse could. Yet he had been born as a mutant. A freak. All because of his stupid parents. THe parents that must have never of wanted him. THey didn't put up a fight in the coourt for me to undergo surgery to get me back my legs.
No.
They dumped me here in this kelp forest.
All alone.
Destined to farm kelp forever.
For the Scubba and the humans.
The humans.
The thing he was meant to be. Or not.
The question plagued him every night, like a noose around his neck. Chocking him. Forever choking him.
He was a underwaver. Those who were half of what they ought to be and half of what they didn't want to be.
It didn't stop there for Haimi. Oh. Oh no, no, no.
most of the other underwavers were things like half salmon or cod or... or shark or WHATEVER THEY WERE!!!
But Haimi was half seahorse. Haima in his mother's mothertongue.
He was the one everyone forgot.
That the surface forgot.
That even the pcean forgot.

Light.
Shimmering light.
Getting closer.
A splash and then
air
calm
and no hat.
Haimi didn't care, for he knew that the ocean would keep it safe, for even though it forgot him, it didn't reject him.
He hauled himself to land and to the warm embraces of the grains that he sunk into.
The sand welcomed him.
Haimi was remembered.
Remembered after all.

A pull.
High tide.
Water.
Gills kicking in.

For he wasn't a human.
He was Haimi.
The only seahorse underwaver
in the whole ocean.
