For the Minedeas contest I would add a friends list column to the Minecraft title screen. It would be a type of "hover the mouse over to tab to view" thing. In the friends list, you would be able to send friend requests, accept requests from other users, decline requests, delete friends, see if your friends are online and chat with friends!
I think that this would be a great addition to the game. It would be easy to see if your friends are able to play with you on servers or just chat!

Thanks for all of the great comments, but I was apparently disqualified because I'm supposed to search through every mod before knowing whether my Minedea is allowed or not.

I didn't know it was already in a mod. Plus wouldn't it just be easier to add this to the game instead of having to download a mod for it? I bet at least half of Minecraft players don't know about the mod. I sure didn't.

It's easier said than done. There is lots of coding that would be required, and people would probably abbuse it, by avoiding chat filters in the minecraft Multiplayer, and tell random people to join their server without the server knowing.
