So Hungry
Ok, so new players get a spawning hut. I have a tiny little home to sleep in, and wow, look at that hunger meter. Guess I ran out of apples from near the spawn point. Now I am just as carnivorous as the next guy, but frankly growing food is much easier then breeding pork shops. Plus it wouldn't hurt to get that pumpkin in the ground.
So off I go to find a suitable, yet "kinda" far away place to put a farm. I guess I could alway go steal from the village too, but a farm sounds like a better idea (not that I'm above stealing from the villagers).
However, if your going to build any kind of a farm your going to need water. Water of course means buckets, or at least one bucket. Your also going to want to find something to make a hoe out of and it really is slow going if you don't have a shovel. Luck for me I happen to fall (then die) into a abandoned mine shaft.

I got really luck here, I was able to make my first ruby pickaxe, which aside from being "as fast as diamond" is just about as durable as iron (but hey I didn't have to use my non-existent iron). I also found a tone of oak planks, some tin, some Iron, 4 bones (which are great for starting a farm) a whole mess of useless Xycorium, and a stack of coal. Oh, almost forgot 70 Tracks (for minecarts) we will keep those for later. Railcraft made tracks expensive. These tracks are more valuable then actual diamonds.

Well side, detour behind us, it's time to build a farm. This spot looks pretty good. It's near water, on a little peninsula, about another 300 meters from town (I will go further eventually but it's hard to go a long way without food, weapons, or armor).
Every farm needs a barn, a silo, or something. I am still dangerously low on resources, even after the mineshaft, but the fencing will make a good fence (to keep out veterinarian skeletons), and the wood is a decent start on a barn.

Unfortunately, I can't think of anything red that is nearby. Guess this is another one on the list of buildings to improve later. But hey, there was a jungle, and jungle wood is kinda red-ish. Plus building a building out of two kinds of base materials is better then building it out of just one kind. On the plus side, I did manage to get some coco beans.
As for the actual farm part of the farm, it took some doing, but a few trips to the village and I can grow wheat, corn, carrots, pumpkins, watermelons, and potatoes. That's a pretty respectable farm for so early on. I also got to place my first chunk loader (I use the chicken chunks version). For the record I do cheat these in because there more of a server admin thing then a building thing. Besides who wants to actually stand there and watch carrots grow.

With the farm in order and a small barn like building in place, it's time to move on to something else. I my way back home I fell in another hole, no mine shafts this time, but I did find enough marble to at least make the floor of the capitol building. That's a start. Of course like most early buildings the farm, or at least the barn is going to need some upgrading later, but for now there's a little storage, some protection and the fence keeps _most_ things out. Perhaps when I find something red I will come back and make the barn a bit more iconic. Still no glass though. Guess slits for windows will have to do.
One more thing, apparently if you cram too much in your tiny starter home, then go to bed, you die. Thank goodness the spawning hut was built. I ended up having to spend another night there before I could get back to town.
Quick note: It's better to place 100 small chunk loaders then 1 giant one.
