So I just wanted to kinda bring attention to one thing everyone seems to overlook when they meet someone for the first time. Everyone almost always assumes if you play MC, you're a guy. However, it seems that more and more girls are finding this awesome game and enjoying it just as much- so why do people assume we're all guys if that's the case?

It seems to be a bit of a stereotype at work here- guys game while girls go shopping, do cheer, etc. But what about those girls, like me, who are more tomboyish and enjoy some games and not so much spending their money on makeup, clothes, and other stuff? I find it odd how we seem to get overlooked- the oddball minority...

I know I can be accused of it once in a while- I do slip up and say "he' instead of what I sometimes do, which is either doing "s/he" or just calling the person by their ign or something until I know their gender. But as one of the minority of girls that do play such the awesome game as we have here, it's still a bit annoying when someone mentions you and says "he" as a sort of auto- genderization (Pardon if that made no sense- I'm writing this at like o' dark 30 in the morning :P).

All I'm trying to do here is not to really rant about it, but to bring it to people's attention- there are girls out there who game, and even though they're a minority, we should not have the stereotype hanging over our heads. People just simply assume we're all dudes and sometimes, ya know what, I'll join in on some guyish shenanigans. That doesn't mean I am one though...

So I guess to conclude this little... whaddeveryouwannacallit (;P), I just want to ask, don't just assume we're dudes when we first join... If you can't tell right away, I don't mind personally if someone asks, or somehow deduces it on their own, or jsut simply say "they" as more of a neutral bound... I know other people have their own preferences, but this is just some ideas to save your butt for the next time a girl joins your server.

Tata for now!

Gender shouldn't matter in a game like Minecraft, its just people often blow the topic out of proportion.

Wait, girls actually play games that aren't about "cute animals" or "cooking and make up" and such? =O
"The more you know!" XD
In all seriousness though, most people call other people "he" in video games when they don't know what gender they are mainly because of some reasons 1.They're male.Pretty obvious here, but girls won't understand the "man factor".Many people assume that male will mostly play games like Minecraft(which is true) and since they aren't use to saying "Oh,dumbguysucksmc is near the fountain" They will mainly use "he,him, his" and such because there's more chance of being RIGHT...than wrong... 2 This is pretty obvious,it's also the reasons some girls call most people in-games as male.EVERYONE ELSE IS DOING IT.No one wants to be left behind by the community so they gotta join in.If you enter a town where everyone is naked,I suggest you get naked as well....Okay that was weird, basically they're trying to "copy" the community to be a part of it.

The phrase is actually the whole "o'dark 30 in the morning"... Basically means I was up past midnight and that's around the time I initially wrote this blog...

People say he because most other players they meet are male, this has nothing to do with a stereotype.
Females arent tomboyish or oddball just because they like to play video games.

About the part about being tomboyish, see my earlier responses to at least one or two comments below :3

The vast majority of the games I play have an overwhelming ratio of males to females, when I interact with other players I go under the assumption (for the most part) that they are male.

I generally refer to players by their username(s) while talking to them and only use he/she while talking about those players in 3rd person, which means I'm generally discussing the player with another player.

If they or another player correct me and inform me that they are in fact female I address them as so from that moment forth. I don't see a problem with this.

That's basically a less exaggerated version of what I just said...

When I comment on a blog my objective is to interact with the author and the other readers and share my thoughts, opinions and experiences based on the subject matter they've outlined.

To me it doesn't matter what other people have commented so long as the author or other readers find what I have to say interesting regardless of whether or not it further's a discussion.

So long as it adds to the discussion. Recounting my experiences doesn't take away from your comment despite their similarities or the conversation as a whole so it shouldn't matter if they are similar.
