“And who,” Grace said sarcastically, “is Steve?, hmm?”
“Steve?, the Dragonslayer.” He said.
“Well,” Grace exclaimed, “I’m Grace the Great!”
“I’m the King of the Desert!”
“I’m Lady of the Forest!”
“I have been to the Farlands!”
“I have been to the Nether itself!”
“I serve the Empire!” Boasted Steve?.
“You served the Empire?” I asked.
I didn’t believe it.
“Who rules there, now?” Grace murmured.
“King Kai,” Steve? replied. “How do you know of the Empire?”
King Kai? There had been many King Kais in the Empire’s history, I wasn’t surprised that one was king right now.
At least the Empire still exists. Grace thought.
I kept my crossbow fixed as Steve? walked closer.
Then I let it loose, by accident.
“Jeez!” He yelled. “What was that for?”
“It was an accident,” I muttered to Grace.
“Oh really?” She retorted.
“Excuse me!” Steve? was now right in front of me. “You talking to yourself?”
“Surrender everything you have,” I ordered. “Or I’ll fire again.”
“Fine.” Steve took out the contents of his inventory: stacks of cobblestone, a diamond shovel, an iron axe, several stone pickaxes, arrows, bones, a heap of dirt, an ender pearl, emeralds…
He was making quite the scene.
“Do I have to remove my clothes, too?”
Grace rolled her eyes.
“C’mon, Steve?.”
“Okay…” he said, “but we can’t just abandon all that stuff! You’ll want this food when we’re starving in two days…”
He reached to grab an apple, but snatched his sword instead!
But Grace was quick with hers.
They locked against one another, snapping back a forth.
She struck him.
Then Steve? landed two hits against us.
Grace slashed him, and we turned.
I ran toward the water, Steve? at my back.
I leapt across a river, and Grace notched her crossbow.
“Ow!” He yelped.
While he recovered, I ate some bread, then switched to my sword again.
“We don’t have to fight, Grace! I can help you!”
I ignored him.
“What do you need?”
“I need to go south, to get to the Capitol.”
“You mean… The-city-of-grey-stones-in-the-high-mountains-on-the-sea?” He said, pronouncing the villagers title.
“Can you lead me there?” I asked.
“That’s where I’m going! We can go together!”
Together? I mused.
The two of us, on a quest, with another person? Grace thought, this sounds like trouble.
“We’ll do it.” I said.
Inside, Grace raged.
“Great!” Steve? said, smiling. “Let’s not fight each other this time.”
