Historical Globalization: An Active Case Study
Due Date: April 5, 2012
Many times as young adults, we hear people talk about global situations with some judgement and authority. It seems as if people have all of the answers and are incredibly informed about the world around them. Often, these events stem from issues that are very old and many individuals do not completely understand the entire background context. In an effort to think critically about current events, you and a small group of peers will be extensively investigating one particular part of the world.
It will be your groupo s responsibility to know and research ALL of the following issues and questions:
§ Which international groups came to your indigenous land?
:: british and french ::
§ When did they come and who led them?
:: british: ,French: ::
§ Why did they travel to your part of the world? What was their motivation: mercantilism, expansionism, capitalism, industrialization, imperialism, or a combination of these? EXPLAIN in detail
:: ::
§ What effects did the incoming group(s) have on your indigenous cultures? Give evidence to support your conclusions
:: ::
§ What effects did you (indigenous group) have on the incoming group(s) culture? Give evidence to support your conclusions
:: ::
§ What positive effects did these historical globalization relationships have on any of the parties involved?
:: ::
§ What negative effects did these historical globalization relationships have on any of the parties involved?
:: ::
§ What evidence is there today of these historical relationships?
:: ::
§ What is being done in contemporary society (todayo s world) to repair any damage done to the indigenous cultures?
:: ::
§ Are these attempts to fix these damages successful? Why or why not?
:: ::
Your group members will have two full classes to investigate your chosen area. After that, you will present your case study complete with your group observations, research, evidence, analysis and conclusions. Your presentation will take at least 10 minutes and should provide you with enough material to easily complete your essay or R.A.F.T. assignment that will follow.
In an effort to grab your peero s attention throughout your case study presentation, consider adding any or all of the suggested components: Role play, maps, Google Earth route mapping, movie, data graphs/charts, graphic organizers such as a cause and effect relationship organizer, an interactive timeline, a concept map (this is NOT a web), a presentation backboard, a song, political cartoons, comic strips (your own or one that is published), a current newspaper article, etc.
