An underlying theme in the song "Savages" -20syl is that what's wrong today is right tomorrow (and vice versa).

In that song, you get parts of it that say

"To be rich and broke, or to be broke and rich
You see it all gets flipped by those who've mastered this
Who give a whole new meaning to what gymnastics is
Jumpin' over the walls on old mattresses"

and

"The mantra, the savage mind will not be conquered
The contra-diction you find inside the monster
With a cannon, that you can't fire without an author
Like a phantom, that you can't hide inside the opera
When you can’t stand up for your goal, they gonna stop ya
When a man stand up than it’s gold, you got an Oscar
What they’re afraid of, later they will applaud for
When that which you are made of later becomes an art form"

I don't think I've ever agreed with a song more.

If you've looked into any part of history, everything about the time period you study seems- off. Even something as old as 50 years ago can seem like it's out of a fiction novel. Why? Because the cultural norm has changed. What was an acceptable greeting 300 years ago is hardly used by anyone in any culture today. The same goes for other things, like the generally accepted worldview, what actions were crimes and what weren't, etc.

So here's another question:

Why is our culture changing so much? You might say it's because of circumstances or because of our modern technology, but it's not. It's because the way humans think are always changing. Not evolving, changing.

That's where this song comes into play. What was good and normal 100 years ago is spat at in today's culture, and vice-versa. What was bad and terrible 100 years ago is accepted and sometimes even praised today.

But why are our minds changing so much? Because we don't have a basis for our logic.

Let me explain.

Everyone has a worldview, whether you are religous or not. A worldview is our view of humanity. Our view of the world. Our view of how it was created. And the worldview isn't a tiny thing either. Your worldview affects how you act towards other people, what you hate and what you like, and even your mental status.

Let's say you're writing an article about the new phone that was announced. Surely you wouldn't write the article without a source of information, right? No, you'd have a source and you'd make sure it was a reputable source for your article. If you were writing about a new phone, then your source is probably the company itself.

It's the same with a worldview. All of us have something that's shaped our worldview. For some, it's experience, and for others, it's religon. Something has shaped your worldview and that thing is the basis for your logic.

Nowadays most peoples' worldview is based off of the media and experience, and because those are always changing peoples' worldviews are always changing. And those worldviews impact the media and experiences of others which creates a cycle of human thinking and understanding always changing.

This fact is blatently obvious today more than ever. Today we have social media where every time you blink there's a new trend and the last trend isn't cool anymore.

For Christians, our worldview is based off of the Bible. The Bible is timeless, and it never changes. It hasn't changed since the last book of the Bible was written, and it won't be changed rightfully ever.

And just like the Bible, God is unchanging.

Something my Pastor covered in a semon recently is the fact that God never changes.

To quote scripture, God is the same "yesterday, today, and forever". He doesn't change, and neither does his word.

So what's the takeaway from this? Stand firm in your worldview, and make sure it's shaped by the right things. And don't be surprised when the rest of humanity changes its mind on something.

Are you really gonna argue that because something was spelled differently that the meaning of the book isn’t the same?

Fair enough. Just saying though, you said it was never changed, but it was.

I also don’t get what you’re trying to say, particularly. Are you saying change of societal norms is bad?

What I meant is the meaning of the passages hasn’t changed significantly.

I do think that’s a bad thing. Because they’re always changing, that means that if you abide by the societal moral standards then there’s actually no right and wrong because it’s always changing.

Interesting view. But why does “right and wrong” have to be defined? Can’t one think for themselves “damn, this seems like a bad thing, I probably shouldn’t do it” or “hey, that will probably be a morally nice thing, I should do that”?
