Hello this is my blog on how to create a better Minecraft server from my
experience.
First
In any server creation process you should have a list of goals you want to achieve. Such as:
-Finish Plugins
-Create better Arenas
-Hire More Staff
-Get Members
Second
As you are completing your list make sure you are advertising your server extremely well! When I say advertise I don't mean spam another server and say "Join my server" because not only is that desperate it's not a great way of advertising. Instead you should use the many Minecraft forums or server listing sites to your advantage. Post your server and get your players to use them.
Third
Establish your playerbase. This can be extremely hard for Premium servers rather than Cracked Servers. When you are establishing a player base and trying to enter the stage of a small community rather than 1-3 members from here there, make sure to offer incentives. Play with your members, do mini-games together. Keep your players busy and entertained.
Fourth
Voting. This is extremely important. Each vote counts. Everytime your player votes you move up on the server list and are one step closer to being noticed more and having people join your server.
Fifth
Have someone do a YouTube video if you can't. This is another great form of advertisement. So many people use YouTube you are bound to snatch 1-20 players from there.
Sixth
Make sure it isn't Pay-To-Win environment. Make sure your donors get good stuff but not to OP that normal players can survive over 10 minutes because they have a guy in God Armour spawn camping.
Seventh
Make sure your staff has limits. Do not allow your staff to do certain things, such as PVP or GM. Simply because that is how most Abusing allegations are formed. This can create a tedious process in having to hire new staff and build trust with them.
Eighth
Have a forum. There are many free hosting websites, such as Enjin. Use this to your advantage. This allows your players to post Staff Apps, Vote, and Donate possibly. Also, it provides easy access to the following, Reporting Players, Staff Applications, and Server Suggestions. It can be hard to set up but once done, it is a great addition to the server.
Ninth
Make sure all your buildings are completely original. You don't want another server having the same spawn as you because it loses originality and becomes extremely bland for your members. Make it unique, use eye catching colors. Include floating structures, pixel art, and extremely vivid Spawns. Using this will generally keep your players on because they will feel they are obligated to offer to help and be apart of the great building that's occuring.
Tenth
In all of my server owning experience, a active owner is a good server. If the owner is on at least everyday the server will function x10's better. It will be easier for players to contact the owner and quickly report bugs. Also, abusive staff can be dealt with immediately.
Eleventh
The first month of any server is going to be the hardest. Do not get discouraged. Stay determined and encourage your members to donate and play actively :)
Twelfth
Use a good selection of plugins. Bad choice of plugins can cause rage and could possibly make players leave. Have fun plugins like Survival Games or Spleef. Offer something that will past time and keep players entertained.
If you follow these 12 rules, I can guarantee your server will prosper and grow better :)
